I thought we’d beat the master
I though we could pass the greatest test
But you can’t stop life or death
And certainly not time itself
Were we meant to be?
I will never know for sure
I just want you to know
My heart you did own
And even if we can’t stop time
There’s something we can do
We can cheat its relentless hand
By keeping an innocent heart
And without holding on to the past,
We can visit it in our hearts and minds
Whenever loneliness sinks in
And threatens to drown our hope
Every day I’ve known you,
Has been the best day of my life
Every tear you wiped away
Every laugh we shared
I hold them all close and safe
As my way of saying that I’m thankful
And as my way of making it up to you,
For all that you’ve given and done for me
I could go on, remembering the best days of my life
Remembering your smile, face, and eyes
And trying to tell you with words
How much I’ve grown to love you
But not even tears can start to express
How much I really care
And how sorry I am, if I ever let you down
If I ever took you for granted
Because you’re the best thing
I could have ever asked for
And losing you is more than I can bear
For with you, a part of my heart is also gone
You were there for me every time
You held my hand all along
Your embrace made things right
Without you, how will I go on?
Somehow, I will prevail
For I know deep in my heart
That somewhere out there
There’s someone who holds the key to my heart
And is going on, alive and well
Achieving his goals and dreams
As I look up at the endless sky
And dream of the love we once had
I close my eyes and smile
And I let a lonely tear escape them
As I whisper to the wind
Hoping that my words may reach you
Even if they fall short of what my heart feels for you
Take this “I love you” and my tears
As proof of my love for you
And know, that I will never forget you
This may be good bye…
But as long as we have hope
We will meet again, someday
So until I see you again
Hold these humble words close
And remember, that somewhere,

This is a very dear poem to me... it was inspired by one of my friends. Her 1 year and 7 month boyfriend had to move to a different state across the country, and thus the relationship ended. You could really tell they were in love... I didn't know how else to show her I cared, so I wrote this for her.
