The Poets Empathy

Look at him.
He does not know what to do
what to think, who to trust
And all the while we sit
faces buried in our books,
cold hands clutching pens
and crumpled notebook paper -
    forgetting through osmosis.
What he said,
what she said
What we all said
As we screamed our lungs to shreds
at eachothers computer screens
And through all our hearts bled red.

Pity (the poets empathy)
is for those who sit
Singing
slow songs of sad silence to themselves
Longing to hold hands
in darkened movie theaters
All reservation is lost
as we lie here in the music,
guitars playing ambiance in the backround.

The secrets weave in and out
between the tears and eyes
and blood and cigarette smoke.
Or in the blank, white space waiting to be filled
with fingertips and broken conversations
and perfect impossibilities that twist away
for the kiss you might have shared,
had you only lost you mind
a little earlier...
Settle for the cheap shots.
And let the smoke burn you away
in one last suffocating gasp
To the darkened room
    shadows. red.
Where you now hide in peace
and whisper,
humming your addicts rosary
to the dead ears of your friends.

wow! i loved it! the more the poem went on, the more complex it became... i was following it pretty well, but then you lost me. i'll go & read it again after i'm thru typing this. i have to disagree w/ smitty, for i think that the best stanza was BY FAR the last one!!!! i loved that stanza! brilliant write as ever! keep up the introspection!

ooh. i like. very smoky and bloody and dark...good for a rainy day/emo mood. it's so ambiguous too, but at the same time i can read a lot into it...uber spiffyage.

*all hail the new corps commander!!!!!*

wow... that was so whoosh. and complicated. i read it three times and i'm still not done pulling together some pieces, just cause, it really is about so much of everything. there are so many allusions i would say, i mean i dont think you pull all this shit straight out of your ass lol. crazy.. i love it though. its probably one of my favorites that you have written, just cause it makes you think, but not in the emo 'i dont understand it' way, lol. like, its just cool to think on and realize all the little allusions or memories and whatnot you have tucked here and there.
