Discrimination

Yesterday I was born,
tomorrow I'll be broken.
My spirit is crushed,
for I am just a token.

My only role in life
is slavery to man.
Bound for certain glory
in someone else's plan.

My soul is never mine,
it's prisoner to a boss.
Seeking all I have,
cares not about my loss.

Price is no objective,
I'm groomed to be a winner.
Toughens me by cruelty,
deprives me of my dinner.

Sparring with my brothers,
offered no protection.
Oozing sores and bloody cuts
exposed to all infection.

Housed in isolation,
countless lonely nights.
Outside world offers,
a weekend at the fights.

A life I didn't choose
within this loving nation.
Some how through it all
I resent the discrimination.

      THE PITT BULL

Author notes

Written for the Breed of dogs who have been the target of ethnic cleansing. Crmininally neglected, inhumanely raised, only to the target of social ignorance. To a large segment of our society, this should sound hauntingly fimiliar. Do your part and don't support any activities that will further this disgrace.

  • Wonderful, absolutely. I am not against pit bulls, I think it's all in the trainer. It's my belief that pit bulls are one of the strongest of breeds, which is why people use them to fight. They can be trained to be just as loving as any other dog. Wonderful job with this, thank you so much for entering.

    Terribly true depiction.

Only thngs is its PIT BULL, no double t, as in brad pitt

Animals need a voice, thank you for helping them as they are truer spirits, more generous of nature than most of mankind has to offer

    PEACE

Ban the Deed, Not the Breed!

Great poem! And I too wish that Pit Bulls were not seen in such a negative light or used for fighting. I think it's so wrong to abuse animals and not only that but they've also given people a reason to dislike them because of how they're conditioned to be used to fight. Thanks for entering!

This is a very unique poem. I've seen many mistreated pit bulls in my day and always have wondered....does anyone care about the dog. They have emotions too. Thank you for something different and I wish you the best.

Unfortunately, this is pittiful practice that still continues to this very day because of the lack of animal rights in some countries.
You truly brought out the heart and emotion of the pitt bull, thankyou very much for being a voice for them.
The Pitt Bull can be such a friendly soul, if only they were treated with respect and have loving owners.
Well done, this poem was really heart-felt and a pleasure to read.
    Love and light to you!

While it is a very random topic, dogs that is, this is amazing, the way you wrote this is very...you've given a voice to an animal who cannot speak for itself, i love it.

    You're right on

This is the truth, pit bulls are a decent breed of dogs, but can be bred for astonishing cruelty. Next, we need to clean up dog racing, just as cut throat, just not as violent or bloody. They really mistreat those racing dogs to a terrible extent. This was an awesome write and the rhyme wasn't really forced, excellent.

Oh God, with chills. At first, I thought you were speaking about a person, but then it really drove the point home that, in fact it is a dog- and how can we treat our best friend this way.

Beautifully written poem, and really gets the point across. Sad...and they do deserve a better life than one of exploitation for money and being trained to fight and to mutilate and be mutilated- and kill or be killed. Disgraceful practice, dog-fighting, and cock-fighting...all of them are unacceptable and brutal.

This is a very insightful poems. I mean I have a fear of dogs. But if they are nice to me I will be nice to them. I have met nice "Pit Bulls". And if they are mean it is caused by the person who raised them. Ya know? If you raise them to be nice they will be nice. But if you raise them to be mean they will be mean. Anyways, keep up the awesome poetry!!! Thank you for entering my contest.

Thank you for writing such a splendid poem. Pitbulls are SWEET creatures. Man, my friend has two of them right, and she has called several pet accepting apartments because she's getting ready to move out of her mom's house soon, and they accept all dogs except a few, including the pitbull. Her dogs are SO freaking sweet to everybody, all they wanna do is be loved and petted ^_^ It's sad that we as a stupid fucking humanity have to discriminate and be racist even towards dogs. They wouldn't be bitchy fighting dogs if they were all raised with love and care like hers are. Thanks for sticking up for your rights, this is a great poem. Good luck to you and thank you for entering my contest! - Kerri

Absolutly amazing. Just superb! I work as a vet assistant and I have been involved with animals for many many years. I am only 17, but I was raised in an animal home. We did rescue, so I all to often have seen what humans do to animals. Pit bulls were once such amazing, beautiful creatures...and it's so sad what humans have done to them. You should read my poem "Another Lost Pit" It's about a pit pup brought into the vet I work for that had been a fight at 9 WEEKS OLD! Pits have a terrible reputation because of what HUMANS have done to them. There are a lot of pits out there that are not mean...but I still can't trust them because HUMANS have fucked up their brains by breeding them for fighting. I applaud you for writing such A TRULY AMAZING poem that most people wouldn't even attempt.

This was very well written, both your rhythm and rhyme are impeccable; and the subject matter, well-discussed.

I, myself, had several unpleasant encounters with a pit bull my father bought as a little girl, but I'm a dog lover, and I still believe that what they're doing to these animals is inhumane.

Isn't it funny how 'humane' is synonymous with kind and compassionate, while humanity is anything but that?

Oh I LUV IT! I am obssessed with rhyme schemes too ya know and i guess that's probably why i enjoyed your poem. I love the flow and the whole concept behind it.
It hurts to read about things like these that happen to a lot of other ppl. Amazing how they can put such strong emotions into words...but you did GREAT!
I wrote a poem about discrimination but it was nowhere as good as this one. it is hard to write about the problems in society since there are so many. Thnx for helping express your resentment (and others, including me) toward discrimination. It is so degrading to be treated that way.
Thank you again. Good luck at the contest. This soooo deserves to win!

i also thought this was about an abused child until i reached the end of the poem.
animal abuse bothers me a lot. if i meet someone who doesn't like animals or treats their own badly i never associate with them again. to me...if you mistreat an animal then how will you treat me? i don't respect those people at all.
good poem with a solid rhyme

I would like to make two points if i may ..1 descrimination is the worse form of insult any one can offer and I hate even the idea of it ..2.this one may not be what you wish to hear ..but some uncrupleous breaders bread dogs and other animals willy nilly and dont take the care to breed bad things out and good things in and an unsuspecting byer can easily be sold a dog bread as a fighting dog or such .. so although I wont stand for the cruewlty of abandoning one of these "badly bread " animals I dont think it should not be allowed to continue unchecked as I know of an instance where what was a nice pup turned into a dog that mauled a small child ..
Having said all that .. it was a lovely write and your feeling came through a good piece of poetry with a good message as well .. keep up the good writes .

    very well done

one mighty powerful poem you have penned. Brilliant thoughts behind your words and the picture you have vividly portrayed on behalf of those animals who cannot speak out. Then again some people are more animals than animals in the way they treat animals and these dogs have a voice in your words. thank you for bringing it out in the open and drawing attention to the situation...good luck in the contest.

I pictured a child in a household of abuse until I reached the end of your poem and saw "THE PITT BULL." I then had to read it again. It's terrible the cruelty human beings can impart on innocent animals. A good friend of mine had a pitt bull, Xena, but she was the sweetest thing, not bred to fight. Too bad she passed away a bit over a year ago. You know, I get things in the mail all the time from anti-animal cruelty groups, like PETA and The Humane Society. I wish I had the money to donate to them. I think it was PETA that had some horrific stories to tell. Makes my stomach churn. I just pray that this world becomes a better place for everyone, including our precious animals. You did a great job on this...rhyme and flow are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing, and good luck in the contest!

Oh wow there are so many comments already but they are all well deserved. This poem really spoke to me, it is worded very well. At the end when I found out it was actually about pitt bulls I thought oh...wow..thank you. As a fierce animal lover myself and one who is constantly hurt by the ignorance of people, I have to say that this poem is beautifully suited to the topic and I thank you for giving these animals a voice one in which portrays them as intelligent beings ( which they are) like us.

This poem caught my attention because animal cruelty is something I feel very strongly about, it's sad to think that we, the so-called "superior beings", are the complete destruction of everything beautiful on this Earth.
Though, the certain few, that can sink no lower, seek their pleasure in the pain of others.
It's digusting that nature itself is used against these creatures in the sickening name of sport.
Unfortunately, we are surrounded by these people everyday.
I, myself, remember having to view this kind of footage in school.
    I was sickened.
Even worse, were the people around me, I wanted a massacre of everyone when I was shocked to see the excitement and smiles at the sight of this video. This being from the younger generation, it cant be right!
(I'm gonna shut up now, I've already given you an essay but I could rant on about this all day).

by the way, I especially like how you've expressed it from the animal's point of view, wonderful job.
Keep up the good work, take care hun, be safe.
    Lauz. xXx.
