The Picture

She stared at the picture
and smiled inside,
knowing that she'd found someone,
something to believe in,
to trust and to run to.
Even though they didn't understand,
and criticized her choice,
she believed in her heart
and knew better than they.
She knew what he meant to her,
how he talked to her,
held her,
told her he loved her.
She felt the butterflies in her stomach
just when he looked at her,
and couldn't remember
what life was like without him.
No matter what they said,
how they acted,
she trusted herself for once;
and realized what was best for her.
To love someone
who finally loved her back
more than life itself,
and to look at life as what is
and what could be,
instead of what was.
Sighing with content,
her eyes finally diverted
from the picture,
but forever would his smile
and love
remain within her heart.
