Och the muckle dhuie-dhu,
Rachan-fachan coo the noo.
Och the muckle pibroch’s lilt,

Its bloody good, but it is actually total nonsense

I hate to argue with the umpire (ha ha!) but what did you not understand about "up yer kilt"? "Och the muckle pibroch's lilt" means "Oh the lilt of the great bagpipe", and "Ecclefechan" is the name of a town.
Spot on as per requirements of the contest! Mis-judged again!

Thank you lucyb... I don't get on here very much these days.

Eth, it is nonsense from begining to end, although words like "muckle", "coo", and so on are real words in Scots. I am glad it touched your funny-bone.
-
really funny
Yes, this sure seems funny. I have to get a full translation, but I do understand "up yer kilt". LOL I enjoyed reading this one Mairi, and I like the picture of the pipe player.

Bethan, the secret is ....

Well, for sure, I've got the hang of the last line!! Sounds fab when you try and read it out loud doesn't it ... Now, do us all a favour and tell us what it means (pretty please ...) x

Bloody abysmally, you barm-pot!
-
No! I think I've got it:
On the ground you're keeping time.
Cuss me - curse me - sweet talk me fine.
On the ground your notes don't wilt
until a cold wind blows up your kilt.
Your barm-pot,
Tangle

Marilynn, I don't know what it says either!

You might, Janet, you just might

Huh? Okay, I won't try, either. My daughter and I went to the "Middle Earth Festival" yesterday and there was a man in a skirt, for some reason of costume choice, and my daughter was bemused. This picture shows a very handsome man and your poem does him justice, I am sure! Well, I don't know what the poem said, but I know you would do him proud!
-
Ok I won't try.
