Brainwashing Test

Match the words on the left with the words on the right:

Author notes

It does rhyme- see, greed/beauty!

Looking at the comments below, I see confusion reigns...

My rhyme comment was a light aside, not the main focus- and here, technically greed/beauty employ only assonance (sharing only vowels), not rhyme proper (sharing a vowel and a consonant). Thanks to Pozo for reminding me, for I had forgotten!
Now the main focus was on reactions/ associations/ views /opinions that are shaped socially and how we go along with them without thinking...

So I was right: (you said it yourself):

"words are not poetry, or art, just information... and the lack of or gain of information creates emotions... and poetry, and art...".

It's a matter of imagination, to make associations with these words and to evoke emotion with them for yourself. Some people can do this, they can see poetry/art in your words, others can't and for them these words are just words.

There is a famous artist who uses words all the time in his art. Do you know Kosuth? You should know him! He is an American from Toledo (OH) born in 1945. Check him out.

    Anna.

A great and humble reply, Papoos... I'll assume it was just too boring for you so I work harder at this craft...

You made a full circle with the words, that's a lot of thinking, Anna! Now I'm thinking that without emotions, words are not poetry, or art, just information... and the lack of or gain of information creates emotions... and poetry, and art... hey! Another full circle! A few more and we'll have a car! lol

Hi Wayne, I had a good LAUGH about this ... poem??? I guess you can see it as such if you use some imagination. Andi (Angel of Suicide) understood it, but like so many people in AP (most people actually) he/she did not tell what was understood and why it was so great. Pity. I have been pondering about it as well. Yes, I know, this remark already makes YOU laugh. Crazy people doing it..., but I told you before you are not just a poet, you are an artist as well. To come up with such a thing... a brainwashing test... lol.

    Oil......Greed
    Flowers..Beauty

These four words give me all kinds of associations. Oil & flowers is something which is produced for free... Nature provides us with it. It should be shared among the people of this earth instead of one country having it all and others having none. Oil is used in all kinds of industry, to make the standard of living better. At the same time though it makes people greedy. They want more and more for themselves at the expense of certain countries. Flowers are used in the soap and perfume businesses. All the creams and lotions made of flowers (also sunflowers - from which you can get oil) make people beautiful (they think). Beautiful people are doing well in society, earn a lot of money and therefore they can buy everything. This makes them greedy. To satisfy their needs factories have to produce (more) goods and to do so they need oil. This makes the cicle round again. It's interesting to see a connection between these words. You did a great job, at least you made me think. I hope somebody else can think of something else by reading this words. Maybe I will tomorrow. If so, I'll let you know. Anna.

Well, you are quite right, Springheel, it employs assonance (just vowels similar) rather than rhyme (vowel and a consonant similar). Now as I just threw that in there as an afterthought to lighten things up, and seeing how easily you managed to throw everyone completely off the original purpose of the piece, I see there is less hope for the world than I had imagined... that is, in a non-reproductive capacity...

Quite right, poz, on the rhyme (vowel and consonant) as opposed to assonance (just vowel). I just threw that in there to lighten things up, it looks like it threw everyone off-topic!

It doesn't rhyme it uses assonance. I matched greed and oil and beauty and flowers.

    Hi,
What I see here is the greed of oil and the beauty of flowers and how we forget to even know how to look. How confused we are about the simplicity of life. Maybe it is too easy to understand.

Ahh. I see. Er- well- I must admit I am rather confused. But yes, I get like that quite often, so not to worry. This really gives me something to think about, and I like how you associated oil with greed- (so long as that was what you were doing?) and flowers with beauty.

This is what this piece allowed me to do with my mind:

I matched the greed and oil and flowers and beauty, and thought that was a nice thing, then I switched them around and matched beauty with greed. I liked doing that. It made me think of how people go so far for beauty and long for it (I'm assuming that could be one reason this was put in the Society category) and I loved that. It was very clever of you to put that in there.

So, those are my takes on this great, thought-provoking piece of yours.

    Keep it up!

    Splenda
