Intoxicating Nights

I slip outside into the night
The world is bathed in silver light
Shadows flitter ‘cross the ground
Though not a soul is to be found
The wind stirs gently in the trees
A whisper sings upon the breeze
The stars glitter with icy light
The full moon beams its silver-white

This feeling that comes over me
A silver song of ecstasy
A silent, ghostly fantasy
Revives my soul and sets me free

The moon has caught me in its trance
My restless soul begins its dance
Excited by these ghostly hues
Of silver-whites and purple-blues
Into the woods I disappear
My needs have never been this clear
Through the trees I weave and wind
While brilliance pulses in my mind

This feeling that comes over me
A joyful burst of energy
A gust of creativity
Revives my soul and sets me free

Dancing in the sparkling dew
I feel my spirits born anew
The air I breathe is crisp and sweet
The grass is plush beneath my feet
I lie upon the grassy loam
I close my eyes and know I’m home
For nothing ever felt so right
As dancing in the silver night

This feeling that comes over me
A passionate tranquility
A beautiful insanity
Revives my soul and sets me free

    Gorgeous.

This poem is quite honestly one of the best I've ever read. At not one place does the poem's rhyming flow fall out of place, not one place is it even slightly awkward. You really paint a picture with your words and that's not always as well done with poetry, but you certainly did it here. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful piece!

Oh! Thank you so much for your comment, but I must say, this is beautiful, as well! I'm usually not much on ryhme patterns such as this because they are often childish and vague, but this was put together so well that the rhyming seemed to be perfect for the message you wanted to convey. Good work, and thanks again for choosing to look at my work.

This was honestly at the top of my best poems ever list. I swear I was entranced within this piece. I could not stop reading. The middle verses about the feeling coming over you were my favorite.. such beautiful wording, yet I found it hard to pick a favorite because this whole poem was magnetic. OMG!!! I am so so happy to have read this piece. I am in love with the night, and you have just brought to life the majestic beauty I find beneath a star-lit sky. I have never been able to capture the night this vividly and flawlessly, and I applaud this outstanding work of art.. I will definetly read so much more by you, and I think you have just made it into my favorites list.

this is awesome, and how I feel as well.

those were the lines that I liked the most...especially the last three. The night does seem comforting sometimes, doesn't it? Great poem!

    A deep thinking spirited poem

I liked it, it really captures night-times feeling in the way the spirits are born anew and how you can feel relief in the air.

  • WOW! That was amazing. You painted a very vivid picture. It was also really complete.. you hit every aspect of night. The words flowed together beautifully! I got lost in the third stanza, so i started over... and it just got better.

I really loved this poem. I love the night time, and this was one of the most beautiful poems ive ever read about it. You couldnt have done any better. ... ... Im gonna go read it again. Just beautiful!

this is simply amazing. I appreciate all the work that you put into this poem by making sure that each line rhymed and that each line had exactly eight syllables. It flowed perfectly and if you read it out loud, all the words seem to wash together and become almost like a song. I dunno...maybe it's just one of my queer imaginings.
Anyways, I also loved the imagery in this piece. As I was reading through this piece, I could imagine the scene you were describing through the great adjectives that you used.
However, I felt the two lines that really spoke to me were "A passionate tranquility/A beautiful insanity". Not only do they have repeating patterns in the structure of the phrase, I also thought these two lines also had a lot of meaning that linked to the poem.
All in all, I absolutely loved this poem.
Thank you so much for the great read and keep it up!

    magical, mystical

Absolutely loved this piece, the imagery is so powerful and the flow is just amazing, It really is just brillant and something that just has to be bookmarked. my only suggestion though is in the second till last verse where your write:

"For nothing every felt so right"

Could it be that you meant ever not every, sorry if I'm wrong but thought I'd ask I do things like it all the time and never notice till someone points it out. Again brillant piece looking forward to reading more of your work.

Excellent. You might like to read this. Robert Louis Stevenson loved the moon, too:

    The Moon

    The moon has a face like the clock in the hall;
She shines on thieves on the garden wall,
On streets and fields and harbour quays,
And birdies asleep in the forks of the trees.

The squalling cat and the squeaking mouse,
The howling dog by the door of the house,
The bat that lies in bed at noon,
All love to be out by the light of the moon.

But all of the things that belong to the day
    Cuddle to sleep to be out of her way;
And flowers and children close their eyes
Till up in the morning the sun shall arise.

    Keep up the good work.

I love the way the tone changed throughout the piece- it started very dark and mysterious, but then changed without the reader even realizing it. By the time you get to the end, it's almost a different poem, yet it feels united throughout.
    Lovely write!

O I liked this. For some reason it made me think of the color palette from a Tim Burton movie...which is good! I enjoyed this. Well done.
