The Perilous Sea

A treasured father in life, a gift
as time goes on what came has passed
with heavy hearts, apologies
between three daughters and their dad.

Still one more anniversary
will bring us where we are today
brought dear from the tempest storms
that carry ships far out to sea.

Growing up, what meaning is
found in the odds and ends of life
strewn in hurricanes of fate-
what came before, what is of late.

Ships lost from sight in the fog
distant, though close enough to call
sailing out into the shoals
they splinter and sink amid the squall.

Drifting aimlessly for years
washed ashore they meet again
unique and special was that day
we celebrate it here today.
