Within its soft breezes
and graceful branches,
the forest held many secrets.
It was enchanting to be
in the midst of such beauty,
yet, travelling the hidden pathways
a certain sadness whispered to me.
I heard the hushed voices
telling of the children,
left in the forest,
unwanted by their parents.
The tall pines spoke
of caring for the babies.
Nurturing and comforting
with such tenderness and love.
Though the babies didn't survive long,
their last hours of life
were made peaceful by the pines.
If you listen carefully
the many spirits of these children
can be heard and felt
as you walk in the forest.
The pine trees shed their tears
to this very day.
Thick and sticky they weep
seeping out of the bark,
perpetually shed for the lost children.

A wonderful entry. Best of luck in my contest. God Bless. Debs x
