For my Prom
I was to wear a breathtaking dress.
One of lace and satin, designed
To fasten a princess
Into her usual, refined beauty.
But 'Princess' has never
Been used to define me.
It was unusual to loose myself
In the notion that someone somewhere
May say, "You're pretty."
Someone somewhere (he) may say
He never noticed (me) before,
But now I took his breath away.
And Prom, to me, would be more
Than any princess could appreciate.
And I would have been more
Than any princess, refined,
Had that dress ever came,
And that Prom ever took place.
I still dream of him saying my name.
I was to wear a breathtaking dress.
One of lace and satin, designed
To fasten a princess
Into her usual, refined beauty.
But 'Princess' has never
Been used to define me.
It was unusual to loose myself
In the notion that someone somewhere
May say, "You're pretty."
Someone somewhere (he) may say
He never noticed (me) before,
But now I took his breath away.
And Prom, to me, would be more
Than any princess could appreciate.
And I would have been more
Than any princess, refined,
Had that dress ever came,
And that Prom ever took place.
I still dream of him saying my name.
Author notes
Although it sounds as though the tone of this contest is meant to be a bit more cheerful than this, no one specifically said "nothing angsty please!" so I hope this is still appropriate. I will always regret having not attended my Senior Prom.
Any feedback appreciated

I am so glad you started writing poems, again! I hope you will come to my next contest, too! Here's a rose bouquet for you!

Slept on the floor? Poor thing! I thought I had it bad, lol!
Thank you for being so sweet. And thank you for this wonderful contest that inspired me to write my first poem in more than half a year!

Angst is perfectly understandable because the PROM has many sides and colors. I did not go to my prom, either. I was engaged and my fiance was in the military. My grandma was visiting us and she had my bed. On Prom night, I slept on the floor. Heck, I don't care now and I didn't care then, either. Your prom poem is excellent and you are a princess then and NOW! Thank you for entering and coming to my Prom Party!
