Mama

Frustrating to think…
To wait…
To dream…
Anticipating one little sound
A squeak, a groan, a hiccup
A snore, a giggle, a snort
Tiny plump fingers
Grip on tightly, little toes
Big yawn from a tiny mouth
All I see is pink tongue and gums
What will your voice sound like?
Will my heart melt?
When you say
Mama

Author notes

Mine is now nineteen months and won't or can't stop talking  But she just started saying mama.  It's beautiful.  It is a treasure...and I can't wait for you to hear it from yours.  Good luck on writing, parenting and everything you do in this awe-inspiring world.

Very well written capturing the eager mood.

Mine is now nineteen years! Still you have been able to weave the magic of those moments that are just out of sight but never, really have gone by. Thanks for this lovely piece of emotional bouquet.

  • I think you truly capture a very special moment. Funny how such little things can mean the world. It seems that approaching the topic from the anticipation of the happening rather than the happening itself intensifies the effect. Glad I got to read it.

Good poem Syren! I havent ever had kids, but I raised my nephew for the first 2 years of his life, and there was nothing more important to me then those little words coming out of his mouth "Auntie Ann" He almost 5 now, and my heart melts still everytime I hear those words all scrambled coming out of his mouth. Kids are so precious. I hope your little one says Momma quickly. You're missing out on a lot!
