Motivation

Have you ever felt your heart beating in your chest?
Ever wonder what it is that makes your heart continue to beat?
What is the motivation behind it's relentless pumping?
Day in and day out something provokes it to continue,
But what if someone found a way to kill, to murder, that motivation?
Would your heart cease to beat if its very reason to exist were torn away?
Could you get it back? Could you find the heart to get it back?
Or now will you treasure whatever it is that makes your heart beat?
Doing whatever you can to protect it, at any cost?
Even if that cost, the price for that treasure, is your own life?
Because what's the point of living if your heart's lost its reason to beat?

Author notes

It's not quite a poem, it's just there to make you think, or for sheer entertainment.  More just a colaboration of my thoughts during history class...
