There is a beast that lives,
Deep inside of me.
Peacefully he slumbers,
Unless someone is foolish enough to wake him.
Only to provoke him,
Would be a deadly mistake.
His green eyes are dim,
His tattered wings are folded neatly on his back.
He feeds on my angry words,
He preys on my negative thoughts.
He drinks the happiness from the oasis of my soul.
Soon he grows full and gently falls asleep,
A belly full of rage.
He is every part of me I wish not to be,
He is the darker part of my heart.
When threatened,
He is quick to defend.
Lashing out with claws of sarcasim,
His teeth dripping with hate and darkness.
The weak must stay away,
The strong must tame him.
The ones who love me are the only ones who have tamed the monster inside of me.
