Looking back everything seems so wrong
And you have to wonder how everything you've ever known
Will suddenly change when it's always been the same
You’ve always been that same lonely girl
Crying by her window sill
Asking mommy why people are so mean
Why they call you funny names
Dreaming of what you'll be one day
Happy and free
Now you're there and nothings as
You thought it would be
You’re like that tree falling down
Like the one lonely cloud in the sky
You’re like that one yellow weed
When the winter starts to fade
You’re like that old house still standing
Though it's weathered and torn
You’re like that great ship wrecked
On the ocean's floor
Sometimes you think you're crazy when you feel so hazy
Looking around not knowing what is what
And you wonder how life’s going to be
When you see how it is and how it's been
And you've always been the same lonely girl
Screaming to the world in silence
Can anybody hear me?
I'm afraid I might drown in this
Ocean so deep
I know you're out there
Could you come and rescue me
You’re like that tree falling down
Like the one lonely cloud in the sky
You’re like that one yellow weed
When the winter starts to fade
You’re like that old house still standing
Though it's weathered and torn
You’re like that great ship wrecked
On the ocean's floor
And you're lovely
And you're worthy of great things
And you're different
But you wouldn't want to be the same
You wouldn't want to be the same
Lovely and beautiful
You wouldn’t want to change
And those who know true beauty
Will truly appreciate
That tree falling down
The one lonely cloud in the sky
That one yellow weed
When the winter starts to fade
And that old house still standing
Though it's weathered and torn
And you are like
You’re like that great ship wrecked
On the ocean's floor
Author notes
Thought of the chorus as I was walking to my drawing class this afternoon...noticed how some things many consider to be worthless or weeds...really are what makes life more beautiful if really appreciated. There's nothing like the look of an abandoned house...or what of a wrecked ship? The verses are inspired by my life and some things that I've gone through/are going through. But I realize that although my life seems like a mess sometimes, it doesn't mean that it's not going to be or isn't already something great.
