Gear Up!

One must be fully clad in proper gear
To get a job completed correctly.
When entering a fire half dressed; unclothed
You will not battle infernos safely.

The perfect air mask, boots, hat, coat and pants
Without fail they must, at all times, be worn
Found in perfect shape and must always fit
Never flimsy and must never be torn.

This gear that I use, Oh, I use it well;
It’s my shelter from the fire I enter.
When rightly protected there is no fear
This important gear became my center.

Just as with firefighting a Christian must
Be always protected on ev’ry side;
For narrow the road that leads to Heaven
But the pathway to destruction is wide.

One must always take the time to gear up
Before entering a raging battle
Clothed with Salvation, to Jesus belong,
Or be herded by Satan like cattle.

Stand therefore: your loins girt about with truth,
A breastplate of righteousness found in God,
With the preparation of the gospel
Of peace; have your feet now perfectly shod.

But above all else; take the shield of faith
quenching fiery darts shot by Satan‘s horde.
Forget not the helmet of salvation
And the Spirit’s sword which is God‘s word!

Pray constantly and with supplication:
Yes, Christians, we must pray in the Spirit.
The armor of God given to protect:
God’s precious children must always wear it.

Ok...amen...I read it now...lol...and this is a beautiful poem...I love the way you illustrated God's armor with the apparel of a fireman...because we are constantly in the fire...

Stay blessed...and continue to spread the Word...

Ahhh....amen....I didn't get to read the entire poem...I saw the title and the last stanza....but I will be back to read this....but many miss it...they think there are only 6 pieces of our armor...but God is complete...and 7 is the number of completion...the one they all miss is prayer...Amen....stay blessed...

Thank you ShelleyA for your comment... it is much appreciated.

Unless I'm mistaken, the breastplate covered both front and back and tied at each side... at the waste... but certainly as Christians we are to be watching each other's backs...... you comment reminded me of the three fold cord in the Old Testament... thanks for the food for thought!

Amen! A beautiful write and message. A great reminder to us to use the whole armor of God every day. I often wonder that the only place that has no shielding is our back, but after giving it some thought, I would say as believers we stand together back to back, shielded by the power of our Lord. Well crafted and a much enjoyed read.

Wo0-H0o! A 21st century parable! I like this. At first I thought you were just going into an experience as a volunteer fireman, then it became about the Armor of God. I was somewhat surprised, nicely albeit.

I want to write more like these myself. Remember my one on the train?

Great work, sis! You're also a masterful rhymer.
