Sunshine and warmth frozen
inches from an icy existence.
It gathers its jacket of autumn leaves,
caressing it around its misshapen form,
and slyly begins its descent
towards the light and underbrush.
Ghostly shadows slither
across sparse patches of ragweed and limp dandelions.
Searching the foliage and brush,
seeking the last rays of golden heat.
A shadow of its former self
hidden beneath a musty hollow.
On the dampest side of the
covered cobblestone bridge,
Crouched against the hollows entrance.
Like a fierce hunter stalking its evening prey.
Ready to attack when his meal was in range.
It's taunt bulging muscles;
flexing and relaxing
again and again and again.
A sudden bitter breeze rustles the fall colors
In the great oak and juniper trees.
And the dew wet saplings
beside their elders,
bending towards the elements.
Gradually the autumn colors, cracked, weathered and worn
sailed towards the dismal, grayish clouds.
Night black clouds rolled violently towards
the warm rain clouds
Pushing the disfigured clouds away.
The autumn colors spun
in bright hues of forest greens,
maple-leaf greens, brick reds,
mahogany browns, sunburst yellows,
and bronze-yellows,
up towards the mouth
of the manipulating storm.
The fall hues took a whirlwind ride into the pit of the windy storm.
Brilliant streaks of blinding white light
ricocheted across the blackened night.
The creatures of the forest were escaping
The intense heat and destruction of their homes.
Cannonballs were launched
and with an ear-deafening explosion
The elements of creation took control.
