Shoreline's Distant Dream

Missing image

The Soul asserts itself with undeniable passion,
bodies poised
for surrender or flight...
The Heart whispers its secret
yearnings while we sleep,
unaware of the transformation...

We color the landscape with dreams
revealed in starlight's Grace ~
shadows subdue our footsteps as we seek the Light...

The Mind presents gauntlets for Memory's sake ~
we pursue the Path with admiration & terror
obvious & oblivious
in our glimpses of the harkening Horizon...

Time guides us as we stumble
with inadequate Knowledge
towards revelation of Reason...

Passion is undenialable as so she says
for fire burns with a reckless abandon
and in its wake new seedlings burst in light
as color reveals the tide, and red roses ravished.

    Gloriously written

This is purely beautiful, so calm and fluidic in its motion from point to point. It doesn't textually seem to have much of a point, a focus, though it does in the obviousness of ending in the last stanza of "Time guides us as we stumble
    with inadequate Knowledge
towards revelation of Reason..." Though I say this just as an observation, as I really just enjoyed the calm movement of it, nomatter where it was going.

I don't know why this thought keeps coming to me, but as I read this, the capitalized words, which were big things, big ideas, the big agents of this piece, hit me like they were names, as if I was listening to a poem that was paying homage to the workings of ancient gods, like this is a creation story of the mind, and the whole plan of Divinity working through these dieties that are Soul, Heart, Light, etc. When I think about it like that, it gives the whole piece such a different feel, very intruiging in its own right.

Thank you very much for entering my contest. This was quite a wonderful piece. Good luck!

Alright so firstly I’d like to say thank you so very much for entering your wonderful poem into my contest. I am very grateful and you and your poetry are greatly appreciated . Miss Hope, I can never be disappointed with your poems, they are so beautiful. How can you continuously create such beautiful poetry? It's absolutly amazing. Every time I read one of your poems, I'm left as Feathered Motion so adequately put it "gasping for air". You truely leave me speachless.

Very powerful and so much can be said in these few words. WHen I read this, I think of taking chances even though we know there may be rainbows and stones ahead...its a chance worth taking all the more. Great write with a deep message and intrinsic (My definition of that word: moving..lol...its a word that popped in my head...and i like the sound of it.haha) ideas. Anyway, take care and have a nice day!

    Hi Wanda

Not heard from you in a while so I thought I would pop on over and have a browse at one of your latest. Now things are dying down a bit I am enjoying reading again

This is a beautiful one, Wanda. Very soulful indeed. The artwork you elected to incorporate with your poem is also apt; it reiterates your painting/colouring of landscapes with dreams, and the perspective of the painting/landscape itself is reflective of the soul's journey which is embodied in your words. Through day and night akin, we do indeed colour this world with our dreams; aspirations, endeavours etc. Our positive efforts compliment and accompany the wonders of nature and all that is good, though the negative ones sadly add a little extra shadow!!

I found the opening stanza conveyed a very poignant message; the strength of the soul may see it stand ready to travel and to battle against the trials of life, yet the mind can all too often deter or waver the body's disposition in the face of adversity, determining whether we run from or advance towards a goal, an obstacle, an issue ... etc.

    "The Heart whispers
    its secret yearnings
    while we sleep,
    unaware
    of the transformation"
.......................Indeed! Our hearts and souls speak in dreams through the subconscious, not only presenting dreams as stories of the night, but as little gateways through which snippets of fate and links to our intuitions may lend clues to the days in waiting

"Time guides us as we stumble
    with inadequate Knowledge
    towards revelation
    of Reason..."
........................Oh, this speaks a message much akin to my own personal philosophy; that there is a reason beyond all things; not always wonderful, but often if we can find reason and wisdom (positive gain, ie for self-growth or enlightenment) in a situation, just gaining that in itself enables us to avoid adding the burden of "regret and rueing mistakes" to the already-sufficient baggage we carry along the way of our life's journey.

This is a stunning piece, Wanda, and made for not only enjoyable and enchanting, but also poignant reading.

I've posted a couple new ones lately, though do not display online as much as I used to. Amaranthine and Revering Hesperus being a couple recent ones on New Age/Cosmo-spiritual/philosophical themes. I really enjoy such material, and reading yours today has been a pleasure

Hoping your day (or evening) brings you much pleasure and inspiration.

    Best wishes as always
    Stu

Thanks, Quill...here is the main portion of my comment to Mary Cat: 'I have always viewed each day as a new beginning...a fresh chance to discover what Life has to offer...to grow beyond self~imposed borders...While we may think & feel the journey is well~developed, Life can spin on a dime, as I'm sure you know...things change without our permission ~ sometimes even without our knowledge...In 12 years, I lost 15 people from my immediate circle...not counting friends & acquaintances...the worst was losing Don in 2003; we'd lived together for 14 years...I'd dreamed of growing old together...I'm only 47 now...& have many new paths laid out before me...I've been on my own since the age of 16...I have started over so many times, I've lost count...This time seems to be the most significant beginning of all...' I hope that clarifies what the poem was about for you...Be well, Poet... Wanda

Guess I was thinkin' posies, ehhh??? That's what I get for posting when I was exhausted... Thanks for noticin', Mary...As for the relevancy of this poem for the contest, I have always viewed each day as a new beginning...a fresh chance to discover what Life has to offer...to grow beyond self~imposed borders...While we may think & feel the journey is well~developed, Life can spin on a dime, as I'm sure you know...things change without our permission ~ sometimes even without our knowledge...In 12 years, I lost 15 people from my immediate circle...not counting friends & acquaintances...the worst was losing Don in 2003; we'd lived together for 14 years...I'd dreamed of growing old together...I'm only 47 now...& have many new paths laid out before me...I've been on my own since the age of 16...I have started over so many times, I've lost count...This time seems to be the most significant beginning of all...I hope that clarifies why I felt this was an appropriate entry, Mary Cat...I'm glad you enjoyed it, nevertheless...Thanks for hosting such consistently great contests...Be well, Poet... Although i think this is beautiful- i'm not sure i see it as a beginning- i am not trying to be thick though and would love to see how you feel it is. I guess i can sorta see the placement in this contest- the beginning steps of a journey but then there are points where it feels as though the journey is well developed-
    Poised is a typo here-
Thanks so much for entering the contest.

Oh my! What a simply gorgeous picture! I love it! I makes me think of a stained glass window of a church! That was a great way to start this piece. This seems to me like a very intense poem. Maybe like your starting out on some kind of search for something in you life. Or lestways, in reading it that's how it seemed to me. Your language was lovely and makes me think of a pretty little red bow mouth. Don't ask me why! I have no idea! lol Either way, I think your poem was great! Thanks for featuring it, so that we all could enjoy it!
