Gran'mere

She sits there in the corner of my mind,
touching my soul;
guiding with gentle hands through
the turmoil of life
Never a harsh word, just that warm
glow of undisputed love emanates
from the spirit of a once lilting brogue;
Smiles that reach clear across the universe
and beyond..staying the hand of anger
and dismay
As I sit here telling of an "Angel" she smiles
and I can hear her telling me "that the "Devil"
is never far away and if he comes calling to
sing at the top of my voice"... I would not
wish that on anyone, so I use the threat
to write words to chase "him" away...
And all the while, she steers the fingers
and encourages the ultimate goal...
freedom of speech...a gift freely given.

Author notes

My Gran'mere whispers in the ear and speaks of possibilities
and dreams. She was an Angel in life and also in death. To say she is sadly missed would be a lie...she never leaves me.

    What a great poem! I really like it! What a wonderful thing to write for your grandmother that meant so much to you! I'm sure she's seeing this right now and smiling from ear to ear. This is a great way to express your feelings for someone. You speak of her but also of the things that she taught you that have had the most effect on your life. That is the greatest gift of 'free speech' you could give her. Thanks for featuring your lovely poem so that we could all enjoy it!

    I'm going to bed happy

    The roses and all remind me of my granny who was so loving and dear to me. This poem gathers me in it's arms and holds me throughout. Thank you for such a sweet time on your poem page!
