DOMINA NOCTIS INTERVIEW!! part one
ok first off, thanks for the interview, you guys are one of my fav. bands!
1st question i have for you guys is your lyrics, what inspires them? seems to have a pagan twist to it.
Edera: When I write my lyrics I take inspiration from many different things… My feelings and my personal growth are the most important source of inspiration. I love to write short tales and sometimes my ideas for lyrics come from my tales. I love the Nature, and I really like to think it as a Goddess, but in a very literary way, as I'm not fond at all in religions of any kind. "Shades of dark and light" and "Lilith the black moon" lyrics may sound pagan, but actually they're both about archetipes of femininity and my personal path as a woman.
2. what inspired you guys to start a band?
Edera: When we started in 1998, Asher was already playing guitar and drums in other bands, and I was having my singing classes. We wanted to put together our ideas to create some songs with a melanchonic and intimate sound. We composed "Gloom" and "The Breath of Nature" for voice and acoustic guitar, but we soon realized that they were perfect to be played with a "metal" sound, so we looked for the other members and we started this project.
3. how did you come up with the name and what does it mean? ( i know but others may not )
Edera: We choose "Domina Noctis" (latin for "Lady/Mistress of the Night") before the release of our first promo "Venus in a dust whirl", in 2001. We formerly were "The moontower", but we had to change it because there was another band called like that. We were searching for a name reminding basically two elements: femininity and the night as something magical and spiritual. So I thought that a latin name was perfect to express this concept.
4. what bands influence your music the most? and what is your fav. bands?
Edera: Some of my favourite bands are The Gathering, Dead Can Dance, Katatonia, Depeche Mode, Epica, but actually they're way too many… When you're a musician all the music you listen to influences you in some way… It's very hard to say which bands/singers influenced me the most… I listen to a LOT of music, really, many different kinds, from operatic to celtic, from ancient/barok to metal, I like a lot of music from the 80ies, and I guess that all this music influenced me in some way as a singer and as a composer.
5. what bands have you done a show with and who was your fav.?
Edera: We had many shows during these years, together with with bands like Labyrinth, Lord Vampyr's Shadowsreign and Macbeth…
Our best show so far was the Italian Gothic Fest in Milan (Jan 19 2006): it was a honour to be on the same stage with My Craving, Shadowsreign and Macbeth and we had a lot of fun!
