Finding yourself trapped and
suppressed under the harsh world’s
force, you caress those thoughts
decaying in your mind
of a place far away.
You dream in vivid reality
that one day your children will know
the love of the people that you once knew.
But back in your mind you know,
that the world
you once painlessly lived in
has been depleting far too quickly.
The dramatic colors of your parallel
universe
have been rained upon
and now form streaks upon a lavish
pallet of grief-
just as your mascara streaks
black
upon your cheeks as you cry yourself to sleep.
Now the image in your mirror has aged
and turned to bitter sweet.
Your skin no longer
radiates with warmth and summer youth,
while your hair no longer
falls
strategically around your breasts.
However, the somehow familiar feel
of the wet running down your face
snaps you back to your summer days-
so before you
go,
you can know the true nature
of your world. Your world of
dark shadows and lulled colors. So now
when you wake again in front of your mirror,
you will know your universe was all in your
head.
