The Fred Phelps Hymn

sung to the tune of "Rock of Ages"

God hates faggots, dykes and queers,
God hates people with large ears
God hates those who tolerate
god hates those who dare debate
God hates all of you, you see.
God hates everyone but me!

God hates those who serve this land
God hates those who take a stand
Bible verses turned and bent
back my claims whatever meant
though I'm guilty of perjury
God hates everyone but me!

God hates kindness and gentle state
God hates everything but hate
God hates those who give a hand
God hates help for fellow man
God hates those who disagree
God hates everyone but me!

Author notes

satire; not to be taken seriously
For the record, I absolutely abhor Fred Phelps, and can't wait to shit in his coffin, the funeral-protesting asshole

I laughed so much at this poem, and at Phelps deluded beliefs. I just wish he would read this, but he wouldn't get the point of what's said. I wonder sometimes what bible he reads, because the ones that I read talks about accepting people, loving, not hate. Well done my friend.

You wrote it as satire,, but unfortunately, there is much truth to what your poem states. Many waste their time judging others rather than taking the time to look at their self. I suppose it is easier to justify one's own behaviors if everyone else is wrong. Kind of like, "Everyone is crazy but me." Oh...if they only understood that is not our place to judge anyone. Well written. Peace be with you.

    er

Yes indeed, the invented god person has a lot to answer for. Personally I find the best thing is to flush him down the toilet. Or try www.allpoetry.com/poem/1298977 .

Rhymie, do you know of Fred phelps? he's that false prophet of a baptist minister that goes around to peoples funerals with his collection of brain-dead zombies and their signs that read "thank God for dead____. He started out attacking gays, but now he's going after the families of those who died in Iraq. the guy makes me sick, and i'm a christian, but if he is any example of what's going to be in heaven, I'm going to ask god to send me to hell.

I am a christian, and I hate that Buttmunch. I had the displeasure of talking to one of his congrgation once. A more closed-minded. hard hearted idiot I never did see. Showing up uninvited to peoples funerals is about as chicken-shit of a thing as I can think of, too. I honestly hope the grieving father of a fallen soldier does us all a favor and shoots his ass, just so i can show up at his funeral with a sign that reads "God hates false prophets"

Are you speaking to the fact that some "Christians" are very critical of others and not very tolerant and give other Christians a bad name. I can see your point. God doesn't want us to judge others, that's not our job. If that's what you were getting at, I think you make a good point.

If I could I would use all of my points for applause, but alas, I can only applaud once. This was wonderful. I take it as satirical and sassy. I was a church goer most of my life and this was the attitude of many "Christians" I met. I am now atheist and quite happy with my life. I really loved this poem. Thanks for sharing.
