Only Humans Cry

The only ones who cry
Human beings falter
Teardrops flow from sorry eyes
Of salted living water
Whenever life is painful
Whenever things go wrong
Tears wet the eyes of dreamers
And help them carry on

No other creature does this
No bird upon the wing
Only human beings
Weep tears, a human thing
Though other animals shed tears
It's never with emotion
Only us in our frailty
Weep poetry in motion

Don't keep your feelings hidden
Don't think its something wrong
You are a great creation
You are a loving song
There is nothing more beautiful
Than the tears in your eyes
Please remember you are unique
For only humans cry

It's true that only humans cry in the sense of using tears as a way of expressing emotion. However, other creatures probably use different methods. My cat's shrieks of anguish when he does not get his own way would melt a heart of stone. MMMRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!

what a fantastic piece of writing, i could read it over and over. "dont keep your feelings hidden, dont think its something wrong" is a very powerful line in itself because alot of people do keep their feelings hidden and think crying is showing their weak, but actually it shows their strong.
    Beautiful piece, well done xx

what a masterpiece to read the first thing in the morning...
we are all so very different yet so much the same....
only a wise poet can articulate that fact with such sophistication and love.

    Beautiful!

"weeping poetry in motion" is such a strong image to consume. Beautiful visually, your poem allows the reader to feel worthy of tears. Sometimes we are too hard on ourselves and do not allow ourselves to show weakness. But to weep poetry, that is a beautiful thing, a great release. Your poem is beautiful! ~

Thanks for your comment on Only Humans Cry. I was struck by this fact the other day - I learned that this is a unique thing that only human beings do - its a very profound part of our humanity, and I was just awestruck. I mean there are so many people (men especially) who keep it hidden or locked up, and yet that beautiful emotion is what makes us human. It is almost as if Man.. is somehow.. by denying this, is trying to make himself other than human, as if somehow we hate being what we are.

    Awesome

Awesome poem here number 6. Crying is the letting go of how we really feel. It is better to let go than to keep pent up frustration inside. Keeping the feelings inside will only add to what is already there.

I haven't really thought about this before, with us being the only ones that cry. I thought other animals did too. We live and we learn.

well i suppose an angel could take on a human form but they wouldn't. they have one job and it isn't to attack humans, it is to guide and protect them, so yes your statement regarding taking human form would be the accurate one.

Beautiful Number 6, and I so agree that it is not a sign of weakness to cry but a release Josephine.
