Promise

Missing image
Summer solstice past
our longest day shared
we denied the dawn
snuggling under the sheet
pretending the sun had not yet risen
outside skies were not azure blue -
creating our own brightness
together.

At dusk
we lingered on the terrace
red wine at hand
music filtering through rays
of gold and red -
a flamenco spanish sunset
in the dark we still
were warm.

Winter solstice past
our shortest day shared
reluctant dawn brought smudgy skies
chill grey light tried to sneak
behind our curtains for warmth
and we, like hibernating creatures
in the den of the duvet
burrowed deeper, cuddled closer
together.

At dusk
we drew the curtains
as thin light surrendered to a night
sparkling with tree lights
cheered by candles
mirroring the gold and warmth
of our love.

A year we have lived together
framing our future dreams
with present practicalities
Each day a promise -
a routine mix of the ordinary and extra-ordinary
filled with work and shopping, love and hope
each dusk is a promise fulfilled
and the brightness in our hearts
lights the next dawn.

So good to be reading you again Sheona. Have both your books up in my poetry collection. If it wasn't for the emails I'd have thought you were kidnapped by some alien life form . Hope life finds you happy and healthy you gorgeous creature you.

Incredible serenity captured. The sense of inner peace so evident. Amazing what love can do. Finding pleasure in the simple things must mean happiness prevails. Hope it lasts a lifetime Sheona.

    Much Love
