I stand for pride
In many of eyes I'm seen as sharp
The sign of a hero
A symbol of strength and freedom
I have seen anger
I have been spat upon
I have had tears fall upon me
From fear and the missing of loved ones
I've tasted blood
From friends and enemies alike
I have flown, sailed, marched and crawled
Across the continents
Slept in trenches
Been shot and shot at
Marched in homecoming parades
Stood tall at funerals of lost friends
I can stand out in crowds
Or blend with my surroundings
My chest will accommodate
And has accommodated many awards
I've known your father, grandfather
Cousins and nephews
Your brother, uncle, sister
Aunt and nieces
Your mother, grandmother, boyfriend
Girlfriend, friends, neighbor, husbands and wives
I've known them all
And was there with each and every one of them
Through good times and bad
In which most would never understand
I am the uniform of any
Soldier or Sailor
Please respect me
For I am proud
.

Amazing Poem
This poem touches the heart. I can see why it won Silver, although I think it should have gotten Gold. To often the veterans come home and are forgotten. My dad was in the Navy in WWII I have so much respect for the military today and those who have served. Bless you for serving. You make me proud to be an American. Thank you for sharing. You take care. Sandy

-
My dad was a Navy vet. Congrats on all the medals.

-
FOR sure
The uniform is of many colors for Our Military, you penned this beautifully to fit each Vet out there and those who paid dearly with their lives, thank you for this entry

For I am proud
~ very nicely done, thank you for entering! i liked the viewpoint, very unique.

-
And I am proud for having read this write. Thank you for entering and I ask that you continue to write from this perspective and allow others a glimpse into the world of the brave and the realm of the courageous.

-
You do give the perspective very well! My Grandfather, Father and Brother all served the Navy. I also have 2 brothers who has served the Army. [You have to excuse them; they were drop as babies] My Grandfather was killed in service - there is a dedication to him on my page.
Your poem is very touching because it gives the full realm of what a soldier/military man experiances. I love meeting Navy men, cause in a 'weird' way it brings me closer to my Grandfather. Mmmm, maybe it's the uniform.
Touching write - Thanks for entering and giving your salute our Memorial Day Heroes!
-
Very touching write I love how you took the perspective of the uniform, very original.

This is truly a great personification that you have written here
I thought at first you were writing out of a soldiers point of view, but from the middle somewhere, I knew that wasn't right... I didn't see the obvious to be honest so knew it was about the uniform when you mentioned
Thank you for entering this poem into the contest!

i show nothing but respect and for these people who would spit upon they desserve nothing but the same for if it was not for brave men women teens who stand tall and fight they would not be around none of us would. thanks for entering my contest best of luck.
-
This was wonderfully written. A very nice tribute to all our military men and women, past and present. I am going to print this one out for my dad and give it to him on Monday. He was in the Air Force for 27 years. I am proud to say I have had 6 relatives in the military (Air Force, Marines, Army & Navy).
-
This is a very touching poem, and a very freash perspective. Even being married to a soldier, I still can't even grasp some of the things you all experience, but then I really don't think anyone can.
this was wonderfully written.
-
if you wish to do any editing before the final judging, this is the time to do so

This piece was absolutely one of the most incredible pieces I've read on this site . . . it is just WONDERFUL!!! I don't even realli know what to say . . . I agree with cutefairyblond . . . it makes me want to stand up and start singing "God bless the USA" . . . and I'm not that patriotic . . . you've glorified the men and women in uniform . . . all of them . . . past to present . . . without glorifying . . . supporting . . . or degrading the war! That's a hard thing to do . . . to be that unbiased! Well done! I'm just soooooo shocked at how wonderful this piece is!!!! Congradulations on a brilliant write! I think you will kick butt in this contest! Keep penning . . . keep sharing . . . and sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much luck to you in this contest!

WOW, Gary, this is so different from everything else, it shows amazing honor tothe troops right now. I still loveb it, so you can stop writing to try and makeme not like something. lmao, but no this is wonderfully written, flows easily, and has simplicity for even the dimwitted people to understand, full of emorion, you do make proud. Great job, once again, mymentor. KEEP PENNING!!! -

-
A good poem. Applause!
-
It was an interesting perspective to read what the uniform would think.. as an entity.. not done very often for we generally tend to think they are just clothing - but they are more than that - uniforms are entities in themselves. Well done.
-
WOW
this is soo beautiful!!
BRILLIANT...i loved reading this and think that you did a great job in writing this!!!
B
-
This is a brilliant concept,'From the eyes of the military uniform'-i was fascinated by the title of the poem,'Respect Me, For I Am Proud '-you made sure you held the attention and did full justice with the poem that followed the eye catching title-simply your words say it all ever so well
-
this was a really strange and unique poem to write. most people think of war and the soldiers that fight in it, they don't take into account their uniforms and what they stand for.
you have done this is such a creative way and you should be very proud of your work.
i loved the lines;
I have had tears fall upon me
From fear and the missing of loved ones
that is just so sad, and shows a lot of emotion, as does the rest of the poem.
you have done an excellent job, thanks heaps for sharing
