Through Her Eyes

If I could look through my mother's eyes,
What would I see?
I would see a lifetime of hardness,
My father, my siblings, and... me.

I would see the pain of her mother's death,
The sorrow of children born dead,
The ache in her heard as her best friend died,
A strong faith by which she is led.

I would see her children being led astray,
Her oldest one not coming home,
Her baby boy being buried,
And a daughter who's mind does roam.

Tears of saddness falling invisibly,
When the fateful phone call came,
The voice on the line to assure her,
That her youngest is exactly the same.

If I could look through my mother's eyes,
What would I see?
I would see the greatest joys in her life:
My father, my siblings, and... me.

Author notes

I wrote this poem about my mom. She has been through so much, yet she is so strong, and such a wonderful person. I love you Mom!
