When I was just a little boy
I marvelled at his powers
I'd sit and read his comic books
Kept me quiet for many hours
In my mind I was a hero
I stood there by his side
We battled monstrous terrors
Rescued people from blazing towers
I knew he came from Krypton
His home planet far away
I wanted him to live with me
Asked my Mum to let him stay
Then one day...I grew up
I stopped thinking like a boy
Went out to work...got married
Forgot my childhood joy
Nowadays Im getting older
My eyes are growing dim
I think of my friend...Superman
Wonder what became of him
We used to have such fun back then
Flying high up in the sky
Chasing super villains
Like Luthor and that other guy
When I recall those days
I give a little sigh
I wonder if my children saw
The teardrop in my eye

Memories are made of this indeed...that was brilliant, the quality of poetry in this contest has been better than I could have ever imagined, so thank you for sharing your entry. I really enjoyed it and your story was very sweet, it truly is a shame that we all have to grow up. Thanks again and good luck, this was a wonderful write x take care x

Oh, you poor thing. This shows your heart and it is a very tender poem. We hate to realize we are getting older when we are our age but it cannot be helped. I think of my special childhood memories, too, and they make me sad because I want to go back to those protected days. I said all that to say this, I enjoyed your poem. Shancy.

Nice rhyming and great write...I prefer Batman myself, though.
