I write this in honor of a Soldier..also a DM student who gave all for what he believed in. That was honor, truth and freedom for all of us in the US. Right now I can't give his name as I don't know if his family has been notified yet...but when I do know for sure I will post his name. I received a call late last night from Iraq from his buddy who was tasked with notifying me. His journal and BOS is being sent to me.
I can say that we need to take time out to honor his service to our nation. And even if you are (as I am) against this war...he stuck to his oath and served us bravely and is one of many that fight for our country...and in his own words "I do what I do so that you can enjoy things such as freedom of speech and the right to protest"... He was against this war...but he made a oath and he felt he had to stick with it. He spent 11 years in the service as an active duty soldier. He reenlisted during the 911 timeframe. He leaves behind a loving wife and a 3 year old son who will never know his father.
So today, let us take some time to honor a Soldier that gave all...and a Pagan that Walked His Talk....as he also worked with other pagan Soldiers while he was here.
I had the honor of speaking and meeting him and I know that he lived by honor, truth, and loyalty. He would not want us to mourn his loss, but celebrate his life. I've also met with and spoken to his wife who is a woman that deeply loved and respected her husband. He spent his free time working as a volunteer in his community with children at the YMCA, a Pagan Activist, and had started working with a group by the name of Spiral Scouts...a alternative group to boy and girl scouts. He also worked towards the Freedom of Religion, as he believed that as a Military member that he fought just for those rights. Let us honor his memory by continueing that fight for him and his family. Let us speak up...come out of the closet.
This is a sad day for me...when will it all stop. Why are we there? Yes we have done some good things there, however, the situation there is getting worse and all the good our Soldiers have done are being undone by those who wish to continue this war.
Today my thoughts are with this Soldier's Family.....and I will post this poem I wrote before in his honor:

A Soldier's life...sometimes filled with dangers most times filled with strife The endless battles between what's wrong or right On one hand is their Oath making them do things they will sometimes loath Then deep inside there's the pride of doing what is right. The tears of families when they must part strike deep inside a Soldier's heart But still they must pick up and go while all the time they know their thoughts are with their loved ones waiting patiently at home Yet still they make these sacrifices for those they leave behind... and for those they've yet to meet Because they took that Oath to keep our Nation Free By: Priestess aka Moonpanther copyright 2005 In honor of all those that truly walk their talk and the families left behind.
