Family Letter to a Friend

It is truth that Charm has no permanent shadow.
Nor does Love have a heart capable of beating forever.
Compassion has limitations just like any other mortal.
Kindness, its sister, is a decrepit soul.
Beauty ages too fast to stay for long.
Intelligence has no gravity, and has never met Common Sense—
Who has been away for years—perhaps dead now…

Service only comes around to visit once a year, usually at Christmas
Joy is often found in the company of Misery, the two polar opposites—
Odd how that works out….
Anger is a loose screw, our relative who we never like to see, but always
Makes frequent visits…
Happiness is on her own now—seems she made her way in the world—
And was never heard from again.

Fondness has all but disappeared—mentally inhibited by her abusive husband, Lust…
Sweetness is often mistaken for Insincerity; funny that is—they’re not twins, but ..
Always mistaken for ones…
Sadness has no job, no friends, except maybe Depression…
Depression—he’s a whole other bag to unwrap…we won’t go there…
One moment, the doorbell has rang…(my they all overstay their welcome sometimes!)…

Death is here.

Wow.......I stand corrected. This is the best piece I've read from you in some time. Wow.......

    No really........Wow.......Wowsers even.

The use of metaphor here is awe inspiring. The way you refer to emotions as people, with distinct charecteristics.....That's fuckin' genius!! Why didn't I think of that?

"Intelligence has no gravity, and has never met Common Sense—
Who has been away for years—perhaps dead now…"
This works on so many levels. Y'know what makes a great poem, great in my opinion? When the metaphors say more than one thing truthfully. I love double meanings. This poem's riddled with them, or maybe I'm reading to much into it.

    Keep writing,

"They all stay their welcome sometimes." Sounds like Ben Franklin poor richards almanach. Very nice writing here, wonderful personification, grand idea, and as far as I can see quite original.

"It is truth that Charm has no permanent shadow.

You do have a way with words, and an insight into life and human emotions that few do have.
Those first three lines paved the way for yet another impressive poem, your words are inspiring, your meaning indepth.
    "Death is here."
The last line so final, so complete, ended this poem in such a way. The shortest line in the entire poem, it summed up all the prior longer stanzas beautifully.
    Such is life.
You live it like that, and then suddenly, you're gone.

    Awesome Imagery

All I can say is breathtaking. So vivid, emotive and captivating. If this were a song I'd be chanting "encore".
