Will I See You Through The Fire and Rain?

Remember, you still need each other here,
and those who depart wish us to carry on
with even more strength and purpose than before...

(click to hear sample melody...)

Just yesterday morning I thought of you, dear,
about your fire and your pouring rain;
I wondered if you were there,
or, if you have gone,
as plans ever change, and life moves ever on
(so I thought I’d sing this little poem for you...)

.

Ooooo, I've seen fire, and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
but I always thought that I would see you, here, baby,
just one more time again...

.

.

I find you, now, feeling down, you've just lost a friend
who, I believe, is looking down from Heaven upon all of us
until our bodies ache and our own times are at hand,
for I don't think we could make it any other way...

.

Yeeess, you've seen fire and you've seen rain,
you've see saddened days that you thought would never end;
you've see lonely times when you could not find your friends,
but I hope you know, that you will find us here, waiting for you,
one more time again...

.

.

Now in your fire, and in your rain
the warm sun may fade away
and a cold wind blow through broken bows
that will turn your head around;
nothing seems to matter when all ends and all fades
with sweet dreams and flying machines
falling in shattered pieces on the ground...

Mmmm, we've seen fire and we've seen rain
we've seen sunny days that we thought would never end
we've felt lonely times and together we have spent
times when we always thought we'd see each other,
one more time, again, now...

.

In the past you've held my heart
helped it heal and mend,
I still have small pieces of your tenderness;
so here, take this ray, keep it close, hold on fast,
though it's quite old, it still is warm,
and forever it will last...
.
This warmth, it's like fire, and it's like rain,
you know it well- you gave it to me when
I was lost and down, and searching for a friend...
so in this fire and rain, can we find each other,
one more time again?

.

Will I see you, will I see you one more time again?
Will I see you? Will I see you through the fire and rain?
You've got to reach out and grab hold of one another again.
You've got to reach out, reach out through the fire and rain...
and then we'll be together, baby,
just one more time again.

Author notes

based on the James Taylor song, "Fire and Rain"
for reasons only Catressa could know!

for my AP sis, Catressa, and all the people still in her life, in a time of her fire and rain...
and for the families
and note to the families- people still need you here,
and you still need each other...

    Wbiro -- It has been, regrettably, some time since I had a chance to read one of your works. Despite the press I have experienced of late from work and travel, I nonetheless offer no excuses for the delay. I should have done so no matter the reason some time ago, and can therefore only offer this humble apology.

    I am generally familiar with the circumstances by which James Taylor wrote "Fire and Rain." As I recall, he was recuperating at a hospital or clinic, and learned one morning that a close friend had committed suicide. In that sense, the work shares much in common with Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven," which of course was written about his infant son's tragic death falling from a window in Italy. Both songs are among the greatest either musician ever wrote and performed -- in the case of James Taylor, I would argue "Fire and Rain" IS his greatest work. Accordingly, it is a marvelous work around which to write this poem in tribute to Catressa and her circumstances.

    I see that Catressa already has responded, and related the meaningfulness of the piece to her. Accordingly, you already are a "winner" in this contest, which shows not merely your poetic talent and intelligence, but more importantly your compassion. Well done, and you deservedly should be proud.

    Oh God I sat here and played it over and over. How funny that what just two weeks ago I asked you to put it on your page joking around? I told you that song was completely my life and now can you see why it fits? But only you would remember. I have felt so blessed this last week that people do remember little things about me. That I seem to have some meaning to people and that warms me. We all want to feel important somehow in this cold world. But I knew beyond a shadow of doubt that she loved me. I can lay my head down on my pillow and feel her around me and in me and know that. And that is why I think I was the one that found her and knew something was wrong. She would have wanted it that way.

    Fire and Rain baby..

    I Love you Brother

    I should have figured that you'd tinker with it after I commented... somehow my timing is always perfect like that.

    It just occured to me, right before hearing the music, that I knew that song.

    Anyhow, nice slight tinkerings.

    made it heal and mend,
    I still have small pieces of your tender warmth;
    so here, take this ray, hold it tight, and keep it real close,
    even though it's old, it's still warm,
    I don't think it will ever grow cold...

    I agree with you and like to say ...Wow... for the hearttouching wordings here indeed..
