I can't walk down the street, while I am holding my lovers hand
I cant kiss their lips without it seeming like I'm making a stand
The smallest bit of tender affection has now lost it's meaning you see
Because people think I am doing it just so I can spit on society
They look at me in disgust and turn their backs to walk the other way
Acting as if I have a disease, sorry but you can't catch being Gay
If I could I'd erase the words Faggot, Lezbo, Dyke, and freak
They are just labels meant to degrade me when people speak
You call me those names while you sit trying to be my judge
Thinking it is your place to take offense and to hold a grudge
Just because I am different and see no boundaries on love
You think my lifestyle wrong and that to hell I will be shoved
Wasn't gods message the love a father has for all his children
And one commandment Thou shalt not Judge, For all of have and do sin
Yet you can Beat us with bats and can throw bricks at out cars
Rape us and torment us break our windows and Burn down our bars
But you are still just "Good ol' boys and girls" so that makes it OK
And we are supposed to be the ones wrong Just because we happen to be gay
Well that is not the way of life anymore we are in a brand new century
And some day we will rise and finally know what it meant to truly be free
And all of the our many boundaries will come crumbling ,be torn down
And we will have our right that to which we are constitutionally bound

Great write
That was really good. I feel the frustration you seem to express at not being able to do the same things that heterosexual couples do in public without being seen as trying to make a stand. -
thank you and yes i do believe that alot of people use their relegion as a basis for discrimatating against gay they use it as a reason to hate it is very frustrating I was raised catholic and have read the bible and I know the scriptures and no where in there does it say it is ok to hate But oh well I will write my poems and get my point out there thank you for the comment Nik

I am glad that you made the distinction between the good ole boys and girls and others. I commented on another piece in this contest last night that was in regards to people demanding that gays 'repent', which implies spiritual conotation. This piece mentions the accusation that non-gays somehow believe and infer that gays will go to 'hell' for being gay. Again more spiritual connection. Some one would have to be pretty dense in religious terminology to believe that heterosexuals are going to heaven because they aren't gay. That's a pretty biased, self righteous, bigoted opinion. I know that ygays obviously run into this absurdity a lot or they wouldn't bring it up so often. I am just saddened by the fact that good old fashioned prejudice has to cloak itself in spiritual garments. In spiritual terms everybody is going to be judged by their relationship with Christ and how they personally handled the conviction that naturally came with it. I am glad I have read some pieces in this contest to get a view of how gays perceive the attack against them. Thank you. RC

From the heart.
You speak almost out of anger... but I can't decide wether this anger is specified to one person or one group of people, or if it's just directed at the general everyday people who obviously have no feelings or care for other people around them.
I'm personally not gay, but I have gay friends and I've had long conversations about this subject. So I sort of understand where you're coming from. One guy said that oppressing gay people is as bad as oppressing black people. They can't change that they're black any more than gay people can change that they are gay... it's just who you are.
Brilliant piece, well worded and clever use of rhyme. It would possibly flow a little better if you broke the poem into a few stanzas - it's a little bit easier on the eyes... and in the line "Thinking it is you place to take"" did you mean... "Thinking it is YOUR place to take"?
Great write.
