I arrived in heaven where I look around
to find the poets but there’s none to be found.
Nowhere to meet my friends who came before
This can’t happen, I must open this door.
I see a cloud with poets gathered there
sitting around with pens in hand to share
their thoughts and dreams of how it used to be;
I wave and shout hello to all I see.
Patrick is there and jean and there’s our Del
so many others gather round as well,
to greet me laughing happily “hello Joan
you're here at last.” they told me they had known.
I watch with love How wonderful they look
said they have been working on writing a book;
‘How come no Café hasn’t been opened here?’
I ask Patrick, ‘We have to start one dear.’
‘It must be a place we can all meet and write
and share a coffee while we chat all night,
The Heavenly Café for Poets is it’s name
to serve up food and drinks is what we aim.’
A good plan they all cheered, ‘Can we start
to build it now? We can all play a part
and make it grand! Joan we waited for you
to appear and help us see it come true.’
I told them Jan helped come up with a plan,
with glowing lights and awnings now will span
above the clouds to house the tables and chairs
with pen and paper ready to write in pairs.
We worked hard to make our dream appear
so poets who stop by know the joy that’s here
and gather round to listen while they speak
of poems they wrote in here so we can critic.
So join us at The Heavenly Poets café to eat
you never know the famous Poets you may meet.

Author notes
I have to include this as one of my most favourites as it's something I hold dear to my heart, as there will be a Cafe built there: You just have to believe.
Option 8
Janice M Pickett and I were talking on Yahoo and the subject came up about a cafe in heaven, I came up with the above title, so Jan and I said "Let's both write a poem." and so we have.
Check Jans poem http://allpoetry.com/poem/1876420
We have lost so many wonderful poets..repomen79..dittysri..Del Warren Livingston and many more, it would be nice to imagine all of them sitting in a place like "The Heavenly Poets Cafe" still writing poems and watching over us.

Magical thought.
Wow. I loved this poem, I'm going to have to save it. I knew Dittysri and repomen79. I knew of Jean's passing, but had no idea that repo had joined him. Thank you so much for this poem, it truly is beautiful!!!

Dear Aimee, You're very welcome and thank you for reading my poem, it has to be one of my most favourites. Yes Patric went before Jean, they are both still sadly missed and will always remain within our hearts.

Another Obit to Check
Great flow and rhymes. Where's the golden harp and the angel with sea blue eyes and hair of halo gold.
Now I have another Obit to check to see if my name appears here, if not we know what that menas. Now I just check the obits in foreign language newspapers here, that way I know for sure I am still alive

I also know without being egotistic that there is a special chair reserved for me in Heaven'Ms Poet Cafe. If the Higher Power forgot about me I am putting my reservation in now. Just I might be sitting alone in an AA Heaven's Poet Cafe unless you have non-alcoholic beverages. Wait who needs alcohol up htere, I was be high anyways and in a different euphoriam that what I expereinced on earth. Thanks for this great write my Aussie Sis.
Gregg

Dear Gregg,
Of course there's a seat there for you and the Angels are there don't worry. There will probably be an AA Cafe there as well, so you'll have plenty of places to visit.
Your reservation is noted in the big reservation book.
Love Joan.

Reassuring thought!
Being at least one full generation older than almost everyone here, I can foresee a time when I will have used up all my future. This year it nearly was... with extreme stress to take me down. (Improving at last.)
Of course, I'd not be alone in that. I'd have to scout out an adjacent cloud that contains all my friends and family who have preceded me, find them, and check out the "real estate" to arrange room for those who will follow me. Such a lovely thought! My old Writers'Block group since the 1990's, as much my family as my family, all of them as much younger too.
Adjacent, near by, easy to visit your cloud... In your turn, you'll find me waiting there too.
How can we NOT love this poem!?
Thank you,
Terry -
-
Dear Terry, You and I are probably around the same age so we'll both be going there sooner than a lot of the young ones. That sounds good starting a "Writers block Cafe" We can pop over and visit each other.
Love Joan

-
Dear AJ, I'm so pleased you entered this poem. It's great to know there'll be a place to meet everyone.
Love Hine.

I take this as a message to cherish our friends while they are with us; they are a long time gone. Enjoyment of good times and forgiveness of mistakes builds a friendship that can never be broken - we have hope of seeing them again.
Some of your friends were gone before I came to AP, but I loved Del and cried for a week when he died. We hope that we will have a long time, but some of our friends are in ill health already, and life is full of accidents. Time is short.
Thank you for your friendship and thoughts, Joan.

My previous comment still stands, still sad to see Del's name. I did n't know him as well as a lot of you but he'd been kind (and funny to me, and often added his good humor to my addlines back in the day when people could see when we posted one. I remember asking him why he changed from Nadir to his real name and I forget exactly but he said it was about honesty and showing who he really was. I think that says a lot about the guy.
And as far as the table in heaven...they have one set up for me in the other direction.

-
-
I've told you before you will be where I am and I'll make sure the Cafe has Moxie there for you.

And Yes Del was a real true blue terrific guy.
-
-
Dear Bea,
I am quite mortified to see that I hadn't commented on this poem when you first posted it nearly two years ago.
I remember the poem very well and am no less impressed with it today than I was then.
When I think back to March 2004 when we first met, you told me that there was no way you would ever write rhyming or metered poetry because it inhibited your imagination and you preferred to write "straight from the heart" but you would 'give it a go.'
Now, I look at the corpus of rhymed, metered verse you have produced over these last four years and salute you for your perseverance and determination, the results of which have earned my highest admiration and love. I am proud to have been of some small help in what you have achieved of which this imaginative poem is no mean example.
As I evidently failed to comment before, perhaps the system will allow me to applaud it now which I do unhesitatingly.
Best of luck in the voting.
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

Excellent!
Joan this is wonderful. I like the idea of a cafe to visit and write in. I don't get a chance to go to cafes here much anymore like I used to, but I always enjoyed having a cup of coffee and visiting for a while with friends. The poem is wonderful and so is the idea that you two came up with.
Love,
Damon

Love your idea and your poem!
What could be better to find in heaven than a heavenly poets' cafe? Poetic friends, rhymes, good food to eat..a combination that's hard to beat!
Best of Luck in the contest! This favorite of yours is a real treat!

Love and Hugs,
Maureen

Very good
I love this and hope one day we may meet in this cafe and share a few poems and stories,
Non from OZ -
I only became familiar with Del's work after he passed away and it makes me wish that I knew him while he was still living. I'll make sure to look for the Cafe once I enter Heaven, though it will still be a long time until I make it there. Wonderful poem, Joan!

-
Dear Yem, I don't intend to go for at least another 20 years, so I'll be long gone before you, But it's nice to know that there'll be a place there for all of us to meet COZ I will make sure that it's created before I get there. You don't know repomen79 and dittysri? OOHH my! allpoetry.com/poets/repomen79
allpoetry.com/poets/dittysri
Hugs Joan and thanks for reading it. -
There's going to be Moxie right? I'll be the guy over in the corner tossing spitballs.
I'm a hardnosed Northener but you gave me chills thinking about those we've lost. The only one I knew was Del, but the idea that before my time is done here on AP I'll probably know more...and I could even be one of those that you'll know who has passed on...that was, well, disconcerting, lol.
So my reading of the poem was mixed...I liked the notion of this place in heaven for poets...but I'm in no hurry to see others go there or to be present there myself.
Bla bla bla bla bla...I blab too much.

Darling Gypsy, neither of us are going for a long time, but there will be a special seat there just for you with your name on it, a nice plush soft one.
Love you my dear friend.
Hugs Joan
-
Flawless! This is exquisite, there is so much heart showing here and I must admit to having teared up at poets we've know that have passed on, and the very thought of you meeting them there, I'll be honest...I can't entertain such a thing right now my friend. But the idea is wonderful, the company of the place is already outstanding and should I arrive upon your cloud, I only hope you've saved me a chair
One of your best ever Joan! Even if it makes me cry LOL
Love ya

There is nothing I like better than spending the afternoon with friends in a cafe, this is pure pleasure! I love your imagining Joan; when we remember them, our friends are close to us.

This is fantastic. I can see them all Joan through your wonderful words. I don't want you to join them too soon but I know that someday you will. You are such an angel. I miss our buddies, all of them. They are still writing and we know it. This made me smile all the way through. I adore this poem. It is a bookmarked poem for sure. I knew I would be smiling when thinking of them, even in their absence... sooner or later. YOU made it sooner. I love you so for this my sister. Thanks I needed this today! I LOVE YOU!
ALWAYS,
Renee
