Sole Heroes

Sole Heroes

Emptiness tingles through my bones
My heart is eaten away by indecisions
And my mind’s grown rusty as
I dream of drowning
Calmly sinking into familiar seas

You say it’s up to us where this journey takes us
But ‘us’ is overstated
I remain alone at the brinks of my insanity
We are sole heroes in a self inflicted battle

Insomnia consumes me in the most silent hours
And darkness becomes an honest friend
Sunshine is deceiving; we wake at its dawn wile
The rest of the world lies still and unresponsive.

Please caress me with tender skin
And let me moan my future loss
Because alone is where we’re headed

Pick up your hiking boots
I’ll walk you to the hill tops
And wile you stare at the restless buzz below
I’ll hold your hand and cinnamon kisses I’ll have you taste

The sweetness will sting our hearts
In a future lonely reminisce

    Great

“Sole Heroes” is involving and unexpected. I like your form; there are six free verse paragraphs, capitalization of first letters and no punctuation, with the exception of line 12. There is a general feeling of loneliness presented, more or less, throughout the poem. There is a strong sense of your person as well as the real yet blurred presence of a companion.

In the first paragraph, a plunging and claustrophobic state of being is presented. You seek to “sink” in the “familiar seas” of a lower state with less agony. In the second section and especially line 7, you talk about how hypocritical the idea of common existence and decision making can be.

I can relate very much to paragraph 3. The oxymoron is beautiful of lines 11 and 12 and incredibly in keeping with the climate of the poem. Then, in the next section, the reader receives a small ray of hope for a happy ending, a big twist in the poem. There is immediate optimism for companionship and perhaps love. Finally, all hope is shattered in the last two lines, leaving a bittersweet taste as the final memory of the poem.
