Leaving the Favela

One day I’ll see the sun,
Show it to my family so they know I tried my best,
I want the world for them,
To paint them a haven of strength,
A cocoon of safety,
Where they can dance in the warm sun,
And bathe their coarse, work worn fingers,
Sweep delicate elegance of the night,
In staying forewarned of the future,
I will save them,
If I can but work this out,
Where my future will take me,
The path that has been laid,
I have my hopes,
My dreams,
My wishes,
And one day they will be reality,
For I love life,
As much as the warm feeling of my childhood, carefree days,
And there can be no future,
Without certainty that we will be together,
I am the future,
The generation,
To save my family,
Give them all they deserve.
