Cornelius the Unicorn, lived in a land
of Pixies and Fairies, and light golden sands
Where trees bore fruit, of a delicate pink
Where there's milk, and honey, and nectar to drink
The skies would fill, with mysterious birds
their glorious colours, reflecting on herds
of quietly grazing, beasts of the plains
as they lazily wait, for the cool soothing rain
Streams would glisten, like patterns on lace
Where fishes would swim at a leisurely pace
Where deer and antelope, frolicked in hay
And the sun always shone, through the greyest of days
Cornelius ruled, as well as he could
Life seemed perfect, all around him was good
But poor King Cornelius, could not find a mate
To remain unwed, was this Unicorn's fate
And every day, in his glorious land
Cornelius would long, for the touch of a hand
of a graceful young Unicorn, with long flowing mane
A Unicorn Princess to take on his name.
But he was the last, the end of the breed
To a sad lonely life, he would have to concede
Until a young Pixie who saw him one day…
look to the heavens, and solemnly pray
"Does this Unicorn race, have to end with just me
Are there no female Unicorns, to hear my sad plea
To partner me in this wonderful life…
of magical bliss, here as my proud wife ?"
The young maiden Pixie, so sad at his plight
Just knew she had to do what was right
To the Queen of the Pixies ! A magical Elf
She begged of her Queen, Cornelius to help
The Pixie Queen said "We are all well aware
of the sadness he feels, by needing to share
his heart full of love, for one of his kind
We must mix a potion! Ingredients to find…
...two seven-leaf clovers, a butterfly's smile
The end of a rainbow, that lights up the sky
A sunbeam that glows at the end of the day
And a fine silver hair from Cornelius's tail
"Lets all pray together, both Fairies and Elves
And think of Cornelius, and not of ourselves
lets pray for a mate, who'll comfort his heart
And stay with Cornelius, and never depart"
The mixture was mixed, and the potion was poured
And everyone waited, not saying a word
But the hours dragged on, and soon it was late
And all became sad, with no sign of a mate
They all left the castle, and said their farewells
The puzzled Queen Pixie, went back to her spells
Re-Reading the lines, that she thought were so right
And checking ingredients long into the night
Then as daylight broke, she looked to the hills
Not understanding, the loss of her skills
But as she glanced out, Cornelius was seen
Standing triumphant, with his Unicorn Queen
A glorious creature, as white as the snow
Her horn of bright silver, gave off a rare glow
Cornelius so proud of the tale he would tell
Of the love of his subjects, and their magical spell
For the good Pixie Queen, had made no mistake
For Unicorn magic, only works when awake
That morning he rose, to the end of his wait….
There standing before him, his wonderful mate

Congratulations on getting the Gold trophy for this delightful poem! I could easily pack up my bags and move to such a blissful land...(sigh...) If only there were such a place. But at least we have great creative minds like yours to take us there to dally for a while.
Thank you for the fleeting glimpse of Nirvana ~ and for the wonderfully happy ending to your tale. Brilliant writing!

Beutiful poem. Well written, and nucled spaced. As if a unicorn were only a fairytale. As for if they were only real. Whitch I can't say they are. But would that be amazing to see a real one? Congrats. This is a lovely poem ♥

Awww, this poem is so... dare I say "cute"? The rhyming couplets were very strong, sounded almost Dr. Seuss-ish, and I don't mean that in a bad way. Unlike Dr. Seuss though, this made some semblance of sense, lol. This was a great poem, you have quite a talent for form poetry it seems. I would be honored to have you submit a new piece for my contest.

"For the good Pixie Queen, had made no mistake

^^^ That was my favorite part ... but don't worry, it's not because it ended
I really liked this poem it was so cute and very well thought out, it seems.
It's seriously, a wonderful story and I think it would be an excellent idea if you were to make it into a children's story book or something.
You could draw the pictures and everything! Haha.
Well, /I/ think it's a really neat idea
Anyways, this was an awesome write and you definately deserve that gold.

Excellent, original and beautiful all rapt in
Bravo !! Bravo !! Brilliant poem with a beautiful lyrical flow that sings by itself. I love everything about this poem and the story it told. Absolutely wonderful to hold the kids (and the adults) as the picture is painted and becomes a movie which keeps the reader enthralled and smiling the beautiful ending. What a wonderful legacy to leave for the kids of this world. It has made me realise there are nicer things to write about than what I have been doing lately, so I suppose coming back down to earth with inspiration from this is worthwhile. -
a beautiful piece, i tend not to read fantasy poems/stories much but i did enjoy this oen as i haven't read one in awhile. good luck in the contest.
-
This is great! I loved this, everything about, the rhyme scheme only added to its beauty (normally i dont do rhyming). Like I said in the description of the option I cant write fantasy stuff. Congratulations on an amazing entry and good luck.

It is always such a joy to read your poetic stories. From a sad beginning to a happy ending. . . It's so nice to see people that write of the fun things amid all the gloom and doom. Great job.
