Why should we pause to think of spring
While autumn’s golden sunlight gleams
Above the hill-tops’ darkening,
And diamonds leap the splash of streams?
Why should we talk of time gone by,
While busy birds are bustling
To fill with noise the raucous sky,
And copper leaf-fall’s rustling?
Why should we waste a moment’s love,
While grasses cool and breezes fair
Caress us like a silken glove?
Still warm, still scented is the air.
Our winter will come all too soon ~
Ah, then perhaps to run, to hide ~
For now embrace our harvest moon,
How sweet our early eventide!
