Driving down the road at night
Headlights are the horses to our carriage
Of premium gas and four-wheel-drive
Look to the paved path ahead
Is this our future?
Cracked and bumpy
Surrounded by black
Yet inviting
And beautiful
Look to the darkness behind
Is this our past?
No longer existent
Too dark to see
Yet you keep checking that
Rear-view mirror
Our cracked and beautiful future
Our dark and mysterious past
And we
Safe within our
400-horse-drawn carriage
We are the present?
Comfortable
Leather interior
Press down
Harder
On
The
Pedal.
How would you like to
Become the future?
Author notes
I began to think about this while driving at night...
It just talks about how the future is scary, yet interesting
while the past is something to be forgotten, yet mysterious
and here we are
nice and comfy
in the present.

I really like the style of this. Quite creative and well written. I do some of my deepest thinking while I drive at night. Excellent piece
