Any Other Bad Day

It was just a bad day
I woke up too late
no time to brush my teeth
my coffee spilled on the sidewalk
of the street
pavement wet
with slippery rain
I forgot to put on a coat
the lighter was still in the pocket
but I was
out of cigarettes
anyway
Didn't have my caffeine
or my nicotine
skipped lunch to catch up
on my studying
drinking peppermint tea
in the library
the guy at the register
was flirting with me
I never know how to react
but smile, look down
try not to frown, just relax
don't attract his manager
I know this poem isn't the answer
but my bad day is over
and it seems so much better now
that it's in some lines
some half-way rhyme
Sunrise, sunset
Cycles of daylight met
awake, arise
tomorrow's surpise
I'll see what lies
in tomorrow's sunrise
