Universal Thinkers
©copyright 2006 Bonita M Quesinberry, R.C.
"Bring thy thoughts captive," Christ instructed you.
"How do I do that?" inquired quite a few.
Pastor says, "Pray!" And, this you often do;
yet, nasty thoughts cut again like glass shards.
"Oh, why! Why? I did as told and prayed hard."
Man believes he is the thinker in pride;
so, regard Christ's actions before He died.
To cause Him to sin Satan surely tried,
fiercely casting worldly thoughts upon Him;
but Christ used His Father's Word as a shim.
"The words are My Father's," Christ said to all,
that not one was His own to cause a fall.
We see two thinkers and each spirit calls,
that mankind then may choose which side to take:
his behaviour the choice he then did make.
Man's power is to choose between all thoughts,
to pick right or wrong is the battle fought.
Each thought is God or Satan your soul bought;
thus, by your behaviour are thoughts captured.
So pray, choose as Christ, and soon be raptured.

In the circumstances I am facing today these words were much needed and I am sure if anyone else would read them would take heart to them too. Poignant Truth. Love that pic. Blessings.

Wow That Is Simply Powerful & True
Take all thoughts captive basically and hold it up to God's word so you know what the truth is. This is a beautiful poem in which you have written. I know this is true and yet I must admit I still do struggle from time to time. There's a season for this and a season for that. I still have my moments where I really miss the presence of my son, in whom was a gift I realize but none the less I loved and nurtured him dearly. I know I wouldn't want him to come back here for what he has now is far greater then what he had before when he was alive. I wouldn't want to see him suffer anymore. I guess I'm selfish sometimes and that is a sin but I'm being honest. I just want to hold him and tell him I love him. You know today it is officially 16 months since my son died and just 7 months since my brother died. I'm also sick so emotionally I'm really vulnerable. Then to top it off I had trauma therapy yesterday and it brought up a lot of inner truths that are really lies that were ingrained into me when I was so young. Now it's a transformation of my thoughts with the Lord and his word and through his Holy Spirit to help me learn who it is God intended for me to be. I know I'm rambling but really everything I'm saying is so very important because I do matter. The Lord totally knows my heart and my pain. I'm just grateful he loves me no matter what and is sometimes quickly and sometimes slowly transforming my life to be more like Jesus. I do love the Lord SisBon. I certainly hope you know that.
Back to your poem I shall print this a read it everyday to help me take my thoughts captive and bring them before the Lord to what is TRUE!!
Love You Always,
Wishing You Many Blessings,
Your Sis,
Kelle Marie

Thoughts captive. Just remember what God told me: "If it's negative, it isn't me." That means we don't take the thought captive.
It is that simple.

I missed this gem when you first wrote it. This is awesome. I need to keep reminding myself that in not thinking God's way, I am sinning and choosing satan's thoughts. There is no grey area - no middle ground with God. He is Holy and because of Jesus we too can be holy and choose Truth - even when it is unpopular and hard. He says to "take EVERY thought captive." Another great write. I found that when I keep good thoughts, and praise along with prayer in my thoughts, it leaves little room for satan to enter in and cause much trouble. God is so good. Thank you for entering.

I have often meditated on this situation. We have two choices. We can entertain the evil thoughts or we can push them away and replace them with the word of God. You've got to be sharp to be a Christian. No room for lazy. Great write. Great topic. Shancy.

Bonnie, I don't think there was a time when Jesus did not focus upon his Father. He prayed without ceasing and was empowered beyond mortal belief. The power of truth is within the words of this poem. I don't know how many times a day I fail to love or lose my focus. I want to share an anecdote with you:
There were two men, a farmer with a mule and a sales man afoot on the road to market one morning when they met. They fell into conversation. In the course of the conversation, the salesman asked if the mule was for sale and the farmer said, "No, but he is yours if you can pray the Lord's Prayer without your thoughts wandering."
The saleman laughed, "It's a cinch! Of course, I can!"
"Whenever you are ready," the farmer said, and folded his arms across his chest.
Confident, the salesman began to pray, "Our Father, which art in heaven......say, will you throw in the bridle and reins, too?"
Thank you for the reminder, Bonnie.

I can certainly identify with this quandry, Bonnie. You've captured the Biblical thoughts and our wrestling quite well, methinks.
Your rhyme in a few places seems a bit forced, and a couple of inversions make the read a bit wooden... but the content is excellent. I think it's certainly worth some thought in revision!
I think that I read a personal note from you somewhere that you're working on meter ? In my opinion, rhymed poetry seems to go hand in hand with metrical flow, and this piece might be better with that thought in mind as well.
Blessings in your quest to communicate God's Word clearly.
Yours in HIM, Daniel

awesome
Wow! This is an awesome poem! Thank you for sharing this. I too, will have to read it a few more times to get the full impact. This is a timely reminder to all of us of a number of points you have brought to our attention. Thank you again! -
Bonnie, I find myself in a turmoil of thought after reading this. As usual, your words are pure Truth! We often take the word "pray" as a thought and not an action. I find myself sometimes doing that, and then I have to go back and ask forgiveness for failing to do so. It's difficult for me to remember who I'm supposed to pray for, and at times my thoughts get jumbled and go their different ways during my prayers. Then again, I have to ask forgiveness.
I'll just bookmark this and go back to read it often. Perhaps it will remind me that my prayers are promises as well as requests--if I can remember to check my bookmarks.
Love, Patricia
