My true companion

Missing image



Before a good friendship can be formed
Loving yourself is the key to success
Listening with your heart, even torn
Then you'll know your friendship is blessed

Little things that take up your day
Trifle to most, highs and lows
Friendship is always a constant trade
Sharing deep secrets, joys and woes

Tissues of many, moments you share
Advice or opinions, silence or truth
Shoulder so big with loving care
Laughing at worries of our lost youth

 

Chatting or visiting, close or far
Once a day or even a year
Friendships still shine, like the stars
Never to worry, they'll always be there

Caring and loving for who you are
Inspiring courage to achieve your goals
Makes them special or a bit bizzare
Companions for life, forever one soul

Being a good friend starts with liking yourself! I am lucky, for the man I love is my best and dearest friend!!

    My friend, you just put Hallmark out of business with all their cheesy cards. This is utterly fantastic. Every word carries the true power of what it means to be or to have a friend. And yes, if you don't learn to love yourself you will never truly learn to love another. Could I have your permission to print this out and frame it for my sisters? I know they would love it.

    This is really wonderful. It's so true...you have to like yourself if you expect others to like you. To have a good friend...you have to be a good friend. A true best friend is very hard to find. I've been hurt a few times in my life by people I thought were my best friends...but life circumstances seem to change people and you go in different directions. Luckily, I'm married to the best friend anyone could hope to have...no matter what life throws our way...we are always there for each other. I can relate to the last line:
    "Companions for life, forever one soul."

    Oh Milly, I just love hearing your words and thoughts about my work I so agree with you. I have had a few friends that should have never been. Feeding off my life to fulfill their own. No more..Now that I am more "comfortable" with myself and my life, it seems that my cup has runneth over. I have tried vigorously and constantly to surround myself with people I cherish and love. I have found this to be the key to being happy. The man I love offers so much in friendship and support, that I have been blessed by this. My heart is filled with so much love it seems miraculous that it still grows. Especially after all that I have endured from my past. I am thrilled that you enjoyed this so It was such a pleasure to write, so I am delighted that it is being so well recieved!!

    Brilliantly ascribed

    This is awesome, Linda, and really quite true. However I understand, from the mast majority, why it is that so many settle for second best (or worse) without a perfect role-model, of divine introspection.

    From my experiences, by all rights I should never trust anyone; so then one might say, "then how can you love or respect yourself." It's been the divine Agape love of God that has prepared me, loving myself and others.

    I just love this poem, it's perfect in every way. More importantly, one can easily feel the love expressed in such a masterful masterpiece as this. Thank you for sharing, it's been such a privilege to fine this gem.
