uses over
twenty-four thousand words

On February 11, 2006 the Modern English language received its 986,120th word.  There are between 50,000 to 60,000 words in Old English.  Shakespeare used between 20,000 and 24,000 in his complete works and is credited with inventing 1,700 of them.  A baby speaks approximately 50 words from 18 to 24 months of age.  The average adult has a vocabulary between 10,000 and 50,000 and an educated adult understands but does not actively use 75,000 words in their vocabulary.  By October or November of 2006, the English language will inaugurate its one millionth word.

Cinquain:

Cinquain, is a 5 line poem, with 2, 4, 6, 8 and 2 syllables in each line respectively. It was developed by Adelaide Crapsey.

The lines are arranged as follows:

Line 1 - a one word title
Line 2 - a 2 word phrase that describes your title or you can just use two words
Line 3 - a 3 word phrase that describes an action relating to your title or just actions words
Line 4 - a 4 word phrase that describes a feeling relating to your topic or just feeling words
Line 5 - one word that refers back to your title
