The Knight's Story

Surrounded by thoughts of corruption and loss,
I think back on these decisions that really might cost.
The tearing of a muscle that could be so strong,
That it could throw me into a depression that could last for so long.
Never escaping from reality and this non-fictional realm,
Convincing myself into believing I will take the helm.
I will take control of these matters and cope with the pain,
To defend what is mine and will never be slain.
Defending my love, the glory, my soul,
That any man or demon would have to fold.

I stand on this battlefield looking about
At the people that fell, that were very much devout.
The blood that was spilled on this area so wide,
That in comparison I know how it feels inside.
Yet, I stand so stout and with unwavering flames,
That I could not imagine me following the same.
But there atop the hill is an ominous monster,
One so fowl that it could make many things falter.
There is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide,
This demon running at me destroys all pride.
I knew what was coming, there was nothing to do,
I let him have at me and at my love altogether to.

I bet you wonder what this cruel thing is called,
You know it too well, you have seen it appalled.
With eyes wide open and mouths closed shut,
You just watched as he hacked, slashed, and cut.
Tiny morsels were left of a shattered heart,
Because a demon called “Doubt” tore it apart.

Author notes

Let me know what you think. I just started writing back poetry again. I need some critiques so I can get back to my usual writing style. Which is not rhyming every word...haha.
