The fading sun catches your hair
And sets your fiery eyes alight
Igniting a flame within my soul.
Oh God, please forgive my indulgence
Partaking in Love's unearthly delight
Save me, Maria, from Passion's blaze
For I am not strong enough to resist alone.
Sacred Spirit, protect me from sin
Let me resist the desire within
Sacred Spirit, lend me his love
Or else let him burn in the fires of Hell.
Of my virtue, I am proud
But I cannot withstand this temptation
Give to me this one indulgence
To satisfy my every need.
It is not my fault
I tried not to stray
But I drank this poison from a cup of gold
Let me yield not to the evils of Love.
For the Devil made me do it
Make me chaste and pure, but not yet
And thus, if another's love he will be
Then damn him to Hell and let him burn...
Author notes
The song is from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" soundtrack.
*This was written based on one of the sub-plots in the story, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", by Victor Hugo, in which Minister Frollo feels torn between his religious values and his passion for Esmeralda. He calls on Mary to protect him from these feelings, which are so intense that he would rather that she burn at the stake, and in Hell for eternity, if she cannot be his alone. The only difference is that I wrote this from a female perspective to shake things up a bit.

Wow. I actually like the poem. I didn't think anyone could write a poem to that song but you did and you did a great job at it. Thank you soo much for entering my contest. Oh and the name of the song is Hellfire isn't it? Maybe I'm wrong. Just wondering. Thanks again.

Another amazing piece...this one seems spiritual to me...like a lesser god coming to love a mortal...I know thats not probably what you were trying to portray but for some reason that stuck to me
Oh God, please forgive my indulgence
Partaking in Love's unearthly delight
Save me, Maria, from Passion's blaze
For I am not strong enough to resist alone.
That line especially seems that way to me -
Awesome
Wow. I really like this one. I could tell it was from Hunchback after the first couple of stanzas.
I really think you captrued Frollo's feelings well, the enternal struggle of his virtue vs. lust for Esmeralda. Once more, well done!
Blessings,
Gabby
