Mother

I wish

For you
To just know this one thing

As much
As you bury yourself in
drink, conceal yourself behind alcohol

I still
Cannot help but love you
You love me too, Mom, I know it is so
I just wish that you could escape the disease. And show it.

Yup... I agree, I respect you for this. I have a hard time forgetting and forgiving, and that's a real shortcoming of mine. I can imagine that you and your mom have had some hard times dealing with her disease, and I'm glad that you can still see the person beneath and love her.

Best of luck in the contest.

Yes - forgiveness. I love the two syllable lines, they seem to express thoughtful emotion and reflection

at one point, i felt i really hated her, but i don't, i don't have it in me to hate. i also grew up with her not remembering the night before every morning, so like... shed be nice until she was drunk again, and for the sake of my happiness, i learned to forgive easily...

This is beautiful and so sad. I know it's hard to love when you feel no love in return. This is a great write!

Beautiful, just lovely. Regardless of what our mother does to hurt us in a way, emotionally or physically, we always love her. Well done. Thank you for entering my contest and good luck.
