I remember when the lights went out in boston
and we all got lost in the streets
holding hands and making our way
down commonwealth past the T
and you were singing that song by Britney Spears
so loud but still no one could hear
and we almost skipped faster
than the stop go passing lasting cars
i remember like it was yesturday
our skip became a ran
and we were moving like go carts or bumper cars
freed from the designated land
our beauty was hung on fences left for the
world to see
and it didnt matter where on the ladder
we were just happy to be free
and i had that queen song stuck in my head
but in slow motion like the light was red
but there was no light to be sound
because they all went out of bounds
and i wonder what would of happened if they all
turned back on
and we got to see the chaos that was still ensued
or if we could all see our faces for what they really are
crooked smiles and long noses
high cheecks and controposto poses
and cellulite dancing in the light
skin and bones with undertones
were we naked or faked with
ringing phones and magazines
made you look, just kidding, flashin on the tv screens
yeah i remember when the lights when out
in boston, the sadly dubbed bean town
all the noises got louder hearts beating out of body
horns honking near the charles
bats dropped outside the fens
so much sound the lights went out we looked around
and we were all the same again
