futility

dance puppet
succumb to mob mentality
sung in tunes of manifest destiny
symphonies of stuck to
flip off the wind
stowed and found by
pious pointy fingers clothed in bone
square stares on spots colored vacant

worship at thrones of outdated philosophy
stockpile upper level crap
sell burnt biscuits to the homeless
and call it healthy economy
blow on
mr naturally incapable
of making a true statement
hot spud jumping hand to pocket
mob of the moment
pith without pulp
potato chips in vodka eaten days on end
nutritional value zero

can't think without approval
follow crowds of the hatefully proper
fit in fit in fit in
lush and crushed
justify robbery of all held dear
glance askance in pointed snickers
at those outside circles
tightly knotted to spin nowhere
claim substance of use and abuse
track the turned in telephone tracers
eggshell dance around fools and royalty
they all sleep the same
dirt to dirt in hidden agendas
of fear and poison heralded to protect

plenty creeps up on barren
ample falls behind
while bleak rounds the corner
on the inside
trapped around a burnt anger
tangled in the fraud
rushed into a dark place labeled day
in swishes and swaggers of pretend to be
individuality

Lol, thanks. The topic was actually prompted by the last word of your contest write up . I love off the wall inspiration.

    Thy ending kicketh ass.

Strong everything (even though the topic isn't all that fresh), with an ending rivaled only by Scott's. Congrats.

This poem is strong and dense, as in packed with a lot of meaning in a short space of time and words. The ending is tight but also I enjoyed this stanza a great deal:

"worship at thrones of outdated philosophy
    stockpile upper level crap
sell burnt biscuits to the homeless
    and call it healthy economy
    blow on
    mr naturally incapable
    of making a true statement
hot spud jumping hand to pocket
    mob of the moment
    pith without pulp
potato chips in vodka eaten days on end
    nutritional value zero"

    Well done!
