Floors

The morning children wake me
Boys have quick piston feet and jumps
I work late; sleep on a floor by the couch
Cartoons, lox, coffee, and I'm turned bench
As the phone does its thing
I'm no crank, but fuck them
Micah says "go to your bed dad"
And I do
With boner, funky blanket, and growl
"Jesus Christ..."
"He even loves you..."
Says some young lady from the Jon
Possibly, my wife
Or better yet; still dreaming.

Spot on! The best thing I ever did was train mine to set their Playstation to mute, and threaten... if they make any noise before 9am mommy will take it off them forever.
Surely all men (with children) are cranks in the morning? And why does the phone always do that?...

Okay, this may be a little different to your usual stuff... but I love it... I want more of this... because I’m a nosey bastard and I enjoyed this little peek through your early morning curtains...

see, now I am going to feel bad, because, somehow this one does not seem to be one of your better pieces, while there are some excellent lines, it just did not come across as the real spirit of you sorry, sweetie, it is probably a winner and I am just stupid

love these lines- the boner and funky blanket are perfect- ok, well, i dont actually know if the boner is perfect but the line certainly is.
This little bit of morning life is perfectly told. Thank you so much for entering the contest.

this poem is like a snapshot of a moment of your life....the details you added ensured its success...there is an element of ennui...of being jaded with the whole damn thing...or am i reading that wrong. thank you for sharing this good poem..i enjoyed reading it. ~tryst

Ahhh, yes, the early morning wake up call... I remember those days all too well. funny thing how kids never want to get up when you want them too.. but just wait for the weekend and they're raring to go at the crack of dawn.

I like this little moment which has brought you so much early morning joy At least Mikah lets you go back to bed...

    Good luck in the contest
