Huguelot Castle - Triptych - a NON-ENTRY

Missing image
Huguelot Castle – A Triptych. NON-ENTRY.

Amid steep wooded slopes and lofty pines
the Castle Huguelot stands, strong and proud.
Its multi-turreted and gothic lines
rise o’er the treetops, noble and unbowed.

Within its walls are centuries of fable
of mediaeval lords and ladies fair.
King Arthur and the knights of his round table
oft-times would visit, sup and sojourn there.
The weary traveller could always find
welcome and warmth inside its lofty halls;
rest for his flagging limbs and peace of mind
as minstrels’ ballads echoed round its walls.

Today it is the haunt of noted poets
who gather to converse and share their rhymes;
a haven, for the few who haply know its
retreat from all the stress of modern times.

Hugh (R.) February 12th. 2006

I absolutely love castles--have always been fascinated by them. Though I've never visited a castle, yet, in my life, your write just renewed my passion! You write as if you have traveled through time and back. Very artfully rendered. Rich!
    Love,
    Kel

    Rising towers, sights pristine,
yet steady, strong on sound foundation.
A fabled place, but warm in reality
for the good company described inside.

    Thank you, Hugh, for bringing
this wondrous piece to my attention!

It's nice to see this poem again. I know most of us would like a "retreat, from all the stress of modern times". Thanks for the fun, Hugh!

A Shocking background color of horror!

Noted poets? That group includes Yemassee and Sir Ima Cucumber...From King Arthur to a clown and a cucumber...Oh how the mighty castle's reputation has fallen!

But it's a very beautiful poem King Hugh, even if it is a lowly non-entry.

    Dear Hugh,
Our Castle certainly is a delightful place and we have spent many happy hours there which everyone enjoys. Why, only last weekend I visited there and do you know? Your Grandpa started laughing and clapping to see someone come to visit. I had a lovely Sauna, a rub down by our Castle massurer and then into the spa bath. Boy I came home feeling so much better.
A fantastic poem on our Huguelot Castle. I Love it!

I've always wanted to visit a real castle like this one. You've made it sound like the perfect castle. I know it's the one we use for our Huguelot Castle but I've forgotten where it is in ral life. The grounds and surrounding hills and trees are so inviting.

Thanks for a nice discriptive poem, Hugh. A lovely and informative write

I know I've read and commented on this poem before but each time I read it, it seems new

    Still love it

Dear and honoured King Hugh, the facility of your verse is only exceeded by the height and breadth of your imagination. A castle guarding steep and wooded slopes, populated by fun-loving lords and ladies, could hardly exist in this humdrum age; yet you bring it to life with a dancing step and the choicest rhyme.

Thanks for bringing this one to the group's attention, it is a pleasure to read it again.

This is where I talk about cowz

I like your castle, particularly the dundgeon. I don't like the rats however, you really shouldn't rely on aged toothless cats to rid you of vermin.

I especially like when you are not at home. I then can slimb to the highest window and wait with my water balloons for unsuspecting castle goers. I'm a little annoyed that so many nice people call the castle their home away from home. I have a new cat o'nine tails that I've been aching to try out...oh sure there are the rats, but it really isn't the same.

Isn't a triptych a three paneled carving or something like that? I'd call the form a writ-tych.

      Dear Yem, (KOCDACOT)

A Triptych is, indeed, a three-panelled carved or painted picture, usually an altarpiece. The two outer panels are half the width of the centrepiece so that they may be folded inwards to conceal it.
The left panel introduced the subject, the centrepiece developed and the right panel summarised or concluded it.
It is to SusanL's credit for suggesting a form of poetry based on this concept, with three stanzas of (for example) 4/8/4 or 5/10/5 lines.
      I can imagine one about: bats/r a t s/cats. (Is that nuts?)
You should try it (as the DILMAH tea adverts say.)
      Hugh.

Listen up, Yem... Though some of the castle cats may be aged and toothless, there's many who are young and robust... and with a full set of teeth... in each of them, not one set to share

However, since as Keeper Of The Castle Cats, I teach them cleanliness and good manners, they refuse to go into that mess you call a dungeon...clean it up a bit, get rid of the decaying bodies and sweep the floor and these well trained felines just might start ridding you of some of the vermin you mentioned.

And hey, the balloon thing sounds like fun. Can I join you

    Masterful Writing

This poem does the castle proud. In its way the poem is as beautiful as the castle is a building. Poetic perfection. --Ellis

This is lovely, Hugh! I hope that someday I can reside in the fabled halls of the Huguelot Castle. Until then I shall just marvel at the beauty of it from the outside and the tender epics you write about those inside.

I have seen this form on Margaret's page, but don't know what are the guidelines to it.
Anyway, it is the poem that matters, and as usual you have done it very well! Always pleasant to read about the castles, and this one is even better as you mention King Arthur
