Deep Within
Deep within the darkness,
Deep within the night,
Deep within my bed,
Visions come in sight.
Of rooms all filled,
With Love distilled.
Beautiful and bright;
All is good and right.
Deep beneath the counterpane,
Deep within my head,
Deep within my hidden brain,
I am nightly led;
To days long past,
Which would not last;
To joyous times long dead,
When Nancy and I wed.
Deep inside the border,
Deep within Dream Land,
Deep behind the fringed lids,
I have come to stand,
Where there I see,
A younger me,
With a future oh how grand!
And my family hand in hand.
Deep from in my skull,
Deep from in my mind,
Deep from in my slumber,
Now I wake to find,
A nightmare life,
Without my wife,
All joy I left behind;
Only sleep is kind.
