I watch your eyes, once beautiful blue
Fading, along with the rest of you
You look so peaceful, as though asleep
And, at your side, I start to weep.
CHORUS:
For the love and the light in my heart are no more
A part of me died with you that night
But you have shown me that death is beautiful
And I am not afraid anymore.
'Take these, my dear,' the doctor commands
And places ten pills in my tiny hands
He says I can have a minute alone
Then to come with him for the journey home.
I stare into the blank eyes of my love
Who has been taken from me to Heaven above
I bend over, gently kissing your eyes
Whispering softly my final goodbyes.

I remember the pills and swallow the lot
But, as I lay down, in death, at your side

'I love you', you say, your hand on my face

Hello Immortal Obscurity, and welcome to the contest! This is a very soft, sensitive write. I think verses 2,5, and the last are the strongest (counting the chorus as verse 3) - perhaps this is because the image of the eyes is very powerful in your poem. In the final verse, the words "eyes wide shut" are used very well, both to expand upon the image of eyes, and really, isn't death the truest sense of that phrase? I think, too, the pills lend a very "Romeo and Juliet" quality, and I was somewhat confused as to whether the writer dies at first - perhaps the pills are somewhat of a distraction from the terrible and beautiful experience of loosing a loved one -- I'll leave that up to you. this shows a different side of death because is all truth some death is beautiful...like this death here. but being murdered after being turtored isnt beautiful. great poem. good luck in the contest and keep writing

The quote that "Death is only the Beginning" is so true. This song was sad, beautiful, and romantic...and reminded me of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet'. You used fantastic imagery, detail, and some great rhyming! You should continue to write poetry/lyrics and pursue your talent! Keep up the great work and may you do awesomely in the contest!
