A Mother's Love

A Mothers Love

In memory of Bigmammajen’s mother, Toni Howard
who passed away  July 28, 2002

I know you only through
Jennifer and her children
From your poetry I’ve gleaned
what you shared with your daughters.
Words expressed so lovingly,
your hopes and dreams for them,
all written down in poetic grandeur.

A legacy of love from within
and all you’ve helped them to become
show the world your wisdom and love.
Broken dreams,
going hungry so your children could eat,
your tender touch,
compassion beyond compare.
You’ve proven in every moment
the love you feel for them,
your hopes for them.

This legacy of love and poetry
lives on within their hearts.
Daughters and grandchildren
carry on that legacy of love,
thrive on your memory,
feeling your love and caring
reaching from above
to touch their souls

….forever and always

Author notes

I never met Jennifer's mother, but I feel that I know her somehow through her poetry and through her daughter Jennifer (Bigmammajen).  Her poetry is like a journal of love for her children and grandchildren.  I hope you'll read some of her poems ... She was one of those people who is beautiful inside and out

Very lovely! My adoptive mom and I were so close in relationship as mother and daughter, and a friend. Since she is gone my stepmother cannot replace my mom.

Thank you, Maggie for reading and commenting on this. Toni and Jenn were very close and Toni was Jenn's inspiration when writing many of her poems.

I'm surprised you found this older poem, but I'm glad you did

This is a wonderful testimonial to a mother. You have explained it all so well in a beautiful flowing language. I lost my own mother last year, and this brought tears to me as I miss her so much. We are puttig her ashes in the cemetery rose garden next month. Thanks for the memory.

Oh Dee, This is such a beautiful tribute I didn't realize Jens mom passed away so recently or only it been a few years. This shows what a lovely soul she really is and you spoke of her memories in such a lovely way a tenderly written piece.

It is difficult to write personally for someone we never knew who has departed from this life but easier to express appreciation for their poetry and legacy which lives on. You have done both extremely well Dee and I applaud your poem. Love and hugs, also to Jen who I know misses her mother always.
